Bill Forces States To Accept Concealed Gun Permits

THE MORNING NEWS

WASHINGTON -- Americans with state-issued concealed weapons permits would be allowed to carry guns wherever they travel in the country under a bill introduced Monday by 3rd District Rep. John Boozman, R-Rogers.

The measure would eliminate a mishmash of concealed weapons regulations that vary from state to state, Boozman contends. All states would be forced to recognize concealed handgun permits from elsewhere.

Gun control advocates oppose the bill. They say that gun permit standards in some states are so weak that other jurisdictions deserve the right to refuse those license holders.

Boozman said the bill ensures Second Amendment rights.

"I've always felt like you can have a gun, openly display it, and there not be a problem," he said. That some states reject licensed permits from other states "infringes on the Constitution."...http://www.nwaonline.net/articles/2008/04/14/news/041508dcgunrecip.txt

Would love to see it, but there ain't a snowball's chance in hell.

Peter Hamm, a spokesman for the Brady Campaign to Prevent Gun Violence said his organization is not anti-gun, but it opposes the bill because of its impact on states.

Yeah right!

"There are already too many states that have too weak a system of approving people for concealed-carry permits," Hamm said. "I don't think the majority of states want to rely on the systems of other states to let someone carry a loaded, concealed handgun across state borders."

Who gives a fig if they are too weak, there shouldn't be a requirement for that anyway!

Hell yeah, if someone looks like they're conservative and have a gun in a restaurant I've got no problem with it. I think this'd be a great idea. I love how this wouldn't ever happen though :(

No CCW needed in Vermont, either.

A citizen's right to concealed carry???? In Illinois??? They would seceede from the United States! The citizenry in this state are so stupid that they actually believe that the Chicago Machine acts in their best interests. They are so used to their governors going from office to jail, that they think it is normal. (It is, in Illinois).

I have to repress the chorteling when I imagine their terror of an armed citizenry.

I would like to see it, but it would ruin my whole libertarian conservative belief in states' rights.
My brother carries a handgun with him and refuses to get a concealed permit. In his opinion, he shouldn't have to pay $200 for a piece of paper that says he knows how to shoot.
I frankly agree with him, but I would still get it even though I hate that stupid law.

Once the RATs get total control of America on January 20th, 2009, private ownership of firearms will be abolished. Forget CCW. They'll confiscate every licensed, registered firearm from the citizens who obeyed the law, leaving only the cops and criminals armed. Count on it.

Ain't gonna happen ... My Rep up here in NW IL introduced legislation several times ...

Blago isn't going fast enough !!

I am all in favor of a Nationwide CCW .... the murderers , pimps , punks , druggies all carry ... why can't honest working folk carry ?

Or, God help him if he actually is forced to use it on someone and he doesn't hold a permit.

That little scrap of paper could save him many years in prison, regardless of how the situation turned out.

This is the statement I love the most from this article:Gun control advocates oppose the bill. They say that gun permit standards in some states are so weak that other jurisdictions deserve the right to refuse those license holders. And will these same liberal roaches feel the same right should be afforded to those jusidictions who oppose Homo marriages conducted in extreme liberal areas?...

Hey, I have a better solution to the whole concealed weapon issue... How bout we simply apply the 2nd amendment in the light in which it was intended, on a national level, and eliminate all laws dealing with gun possession... That way it doesn't matter if its concealed or worn on your belt for all to see...

One wonders at what point we became so civilized that self-defense was something so dangerous and offensive as to require regulation on the part of an overbearing government...

In your dreams, ducky! Maybe, if there were no liberals ... with liberals around, what the government can give you, it can take away from you just as easily.

As I said, in your dreams.

I'm trying to convince my brother to leave the handgun in his car. In Colorado, you can have a handgun for self-defense in your car without a permit (we have a pro-life and pro-gun liberal governor, thank God).

The confusion here is because of certain language in our laws and the actual geography/population in the state.

To be more clear: Open carry is allowed anywhere that it is not specifically forbidden by ordinance or property owner's preference. -and- Gun owners are not required to remove their weapons between any recreational use and their place of residence. Since we are literally surrounded everywhere by recreation lands, (with the exception of our towns and cities), it would be very difficult to prove where an armed citizen were coming from or headed to...

The CCW merely removes the doubt and allows transfer of firearms with an FFL holder without a background check. (Fewer tracks and lower fees).

For my photo session for the CCW, I let my hair and beard grow and pulled a black baseball cap down over my eyes which I refused to remove. I figured that if I were going to submit to this humiliation, I might as well look the part and be hard to identify. I guess that's part of my asshat personality. But if they can't take a joke, f**k 'em, I always say. Them and the horse they rode in on.

FWIW
