I hope Bush will take this opportunity to pull Pope Benedict aside and tell him (in no uncertain terms) that the Catholic Church had better cut out funding shelters for illegals on our southern border. All this does is encourage more illegals to come here and then start drawing on entitlements effectively stealing money from working Americans.

How would the Pope like it if the US started setting up shelters inside Vatican City for anyone that manages to scale the fence?

If the Catholics want to help poor Mexicans then I suggest they set up shelters in Mexico instead of aiding and abetting law breakers in the US.

This is the very issue we are debating as I recently refused some volunteer service to assist illegals get green cards at a Catholic church that is offering to help with this illegal activity. I have come under heavy fire within my own family for it.

And the Catholic Church isn't the only church doing it. In fact, the Catholic Church may not be the biggest offender.

They may be the biggest body doing it, but you are correct, they are not the worst offenders.

Thank you,Lub and Luc.

Having said that, I feel really offended by that stupid remark. I know, I know. Jesus said we should help the poor, the Good Samaritan, and all that.

But He said nothing about helping those who break the law to come and get the goodies from a country with little or nothing in return. :flame:

Sis, Jesus said WE should help the poor, I believe that to mean people, individuals, persons themselves, not government entities or even church entities, unless the PEOPLE are behind it (not the religious leadership) -- and that goes for ANY religious affiliation/denomination, imho.

THIS is where the govt has erred, and even the 'church' (using the term collectively, not denomination specific). When you TAKE from one to give to another, that is not charity. Helping illegals TAKES from those who are trying to get here through legal means, and those already here by legal means (resident citizens and naturalized citizens).

If a church body votes to start a group to help foreigners come to this country legally, that's great. But their organization entity should be getting them here in waiting LEGALLY. Accepting, aiding and abetting those who are here illegally from the get-go, is a criminal offense, imho.

This just kills me. I really want to go back to the Catholic Church; there are beautiful aspects of the Church. But, I can't get behind hiding the corruption of pediphilia and illegal immigration of Catholic peasants who disregard the law. It's too much for me to look the other way. I'm hoping one day I can go back to the Catholic Church.

Actually, Jesus was quite the cultural snob. We need to remember that. He came to the Jews first, and, once rejected by them, the goy. He was also a synagogue hob nobber. I doubt He would have been inclined to put a red dot in the middle of his forehead in India or wear a rag on His head when talking to the president of Iran in order to fit in or be culturally 'sensitive'. I don't say this as a critique, but as a compliment of Him. Jesus was anything but PC.

He was also not inclusive. Heaven has very strict rules. Not everyone gets in. If you are there illegally, you will be deported. You have to get documented first. You have to have your papers, have your name written in the book of life and received Jesus as your personal Savior.

This is, of course, not for everyone. Hell with pride in tow is preferable to Heaven without it. But this post is a reminder that spiritual immigration nearly mirrors the manner in which national immigration should work. There are very clear theological rules. And on Earth, there are very clear societal laws.

Jesus used the teaching of the good Samaritan as a counterpoint. What that means is that its power is generated by the fact that the person WAS NOT A JEW, not a person of the promise. That alone means that even though Jesus made no distinctions individually, He did when it came to nation states and their borders, rules and customs as well as laws and by-laws.

There is no such thing on Earth as 'one global nation'. And I imagine if there were, God would smash it like He did Babel, by inventing different cultures and languages. Only in Heaven are we freed of such considerations. But here, on Earth, we should understand that separation and borders are God ordained, thus we should honor them.
