Ohio Senate OK's deadly force against intruders, freezing of credit reports

Columbus - Deadly force could be used against people who unlawfully enter the homes and cars of Ohio citizens under legislation passed unanimously by the Ohio Senate Wednesday.
The so-called "Castle Doctrine" bill was one of several the Senate passed before adjourning for the week. Other bills would allow consumers to place freezes on their credit reports, give county sheriffs the ability to enforce deportation orders against illegal immigrants and establish a Department of Veteran Services.
Sen. Steve Buehrer, a suburban Toledo Republican, traced the origin of the Castle Doctrine back hundreds of years, calling it "common sense that has come down to us from the Middle Ages - people have a right to defend themselves in their own homes." The bill now moves to the Ohio House.
Under current Ohio law, if you shoot an intruder dead in your home, you have to prove self-defense by showing you were in imminent danger and the only way to escape harm was through force....http://blog.cleveland.com/openers/2008/04/senate_approves_castle_doctrin.html

When crime drops in Ohio because of this ruling, I'll be sure to tell someone at the Drunken Underground "told ya so." You know, since criminals know they may be in deep shit if they try breaking into someone's home.

I really Like Bronson's statement about guns when a thug with limited mental capacity had a gun and the "boss" asked him if guns bothered him. "Guns don't bother me but a gun in the hands of an idiot bothers me"

The law already stated you had no duty to retreat in your home, but it was kinda fuzzy on the situations where deadly force could be used. Also, several court cases held up the use of deadly force in the home. That's why the critics said this law wasn't really needed. However, with the grey areas in the current law, we were only one liberal judge away from having all that turned upside down. That's why this bill was pushed, to clarify and solidify what was already being generally practiced, rather than to extend additional rights to homeowners. Except for the vehicle thing. That's pretty much a new facet. In any case, it is unlikely that you will see much of a change in crime rates. This was designed more to forestall possible future bad court decisions.

I want a casle...I already have the tiara...let's just make it official...LOL! J/K
Seriously, I like this law and think it should be everywhere. I don't understand why it seems that criminals are supposed to be handled with kid gloves if they are breaking into someone else's property. I have friends and family that work for insurance companies and you would not believe how many criminals will sue a property owner if they are injured while committing a CRIME on the person's property.

I'm glad to see some good law passed finally, seriously makes me consider relocating there just to expose myself to a much higher volume of common sense.

"Sorry officer, after I shot him in self defense, he fell into the wood chipper. wasn't much I could do after that point."

There are a lot of home security systems on the market these days but the best intruder prevention system is surprisingly simple to build yourself from materials you already have laying around the house:
Materials:
One 12 gauge shotgun.
One spool of fishing line.
Instructions:
1. Tie one end of fishing line to door knob.
2. Tie other end to trigger(s) on shotgun.
3. Position shotgun with barrel aimed at door.
NOTE: Be sure to keep a garden hose and woodchipper near the door.
