NEW ORLEANS - Republican presidential candidate John McCain took stock of still-hurricane-damaged areas of New Orleans on Thursday and declared that if the disaster had happened on his watch, he would have immediately landed at the nearest Air Force base, drawing a sharp contrast to President Bush's handling of the tragedy.
McCain called the response to Hurricane Katrina "a perfect storm" of mismanagement by federal, state and local governments...
Without mentioning Bush directly, McCain said that when Katrina struck, "If I had been president, I would have ordered the plane landed at the nearest base and I'd have been over here." He repeated that later, saying, "I would've landed my airplane at the nearest Air Force base and come over personally."...

I suppose he also thinks that he could just stand in New Orleans and hold up his hand and the hurricane would stop dead.
Actually, the massive mismanagement came from Mayor Nagan and Governor Blanco, not from President Bush.

He's forgetting the all important fact that HAD this happened on "his watch" he would be restrained BY LAW to do anything "immediately". He would be forced, as BUSH WAS, to wait until the state's GOVERNOR asked for aid.
Bush could not "legally" do anything until asked, and since the "Chocolate City" waited so long to ASK, they got WHAT THEY DESERVED.

Nope. You're wrong. Bush ignored it because he hates black people. /sarc
Seriously, this seems to me to be cheap shot by McCain.

And when President Bush asked Blanco for a decision about federalizing the National Guard, it took her 24 hours to make it.

This is the thimble calling the kettle black. McCain is a pissant who needs to be taught a lesson in conservatism and reality.

Here he goes folks, just a glimpse at what is in store if he were to get elected. He is so full of himself he is ready to burst. He's been holding it all in for alot of years craving the Oval Office shaped cameras. Frankly I'm suprised he hasn't been lobbing big ones at the whole Bush family for not supporting William Ayers right to throw bombs.

Never again...
This quote actually reminds me of all the superhero comicbooks I used to read when I was a comicbook junkie. Most of the time when that quote was said, the opposite actually ended up happening. Odd, huh?

He can't tell the truth. No one can. New Orleans should have been left alone and after the Hurricane, left alone.

And for those who need proof, here is some:

Why were these busses like this and NOT somewhere out of the city full of people?
Day 10 – 9/1/05, Amtrak Planning Evacuations for N.O. Rresidents
MERIDIAN — An evacuation plan via Amtrak train for New Orleans residents trapped by Hurricane Katrina's devastation and floodwaters is being worked out by Amtrak president David Gunn, Meridian Mayor John Robert Smith said Wednesday.
Smith, former Amtrak chairman, said the plan also would possibly use three national freight lines to evacuate New Orleans residents.
If the plan can be worked out, New Orleans residents trapped by the storm could be evacuated to the west by lines operated by Union Pacific Railroad and Canadian National-Illinois Central Railroad, or to the north by freight lines operated by Norfolk Southern Railroad.

People from outside of New Orleans tried to help but were turned away. After all that, Nagan gets re-elected? People in New Orleans deserve their fate.

What makes Johnny think that the Secret Service would allow the president to go into an area where a catastrophe is in progress. Does he think he's James Tiberius Kirk, ready to beam down to unknown dangers? And WTF does he suppose that he couild have done if he were permitted to go there? Would he help Sean Penn bail out his boat?

That's up next , now that McVain has tried to bitch slap the NC Repub Party for airing an ad that is truthful and shows Obama in a truthful negative light ...
What's more, the ad in question is NOT in support of him for president, it's in OPPOSITION to candidates that are running for Governor of NC. The organization that made and are airing those ads have NOTHING to do with McCain as a presidential CONdidate. And somehow, he believes HE has a say in the ad campaign against a Gov race he's NOT EVEN IN!
The Conservative talk shows here in SC are questioning whether McCain is actually SUPPORTING Obama... which would make sense... after all, they ARE both Democrats.

This goes to show you how one can campaign himself out of a job. Louisiana is a lock in November yet he goes out and takes a cheap shot at Bush. There are plenty of legit areas to distance himself from Dubya, without bringing this up. And he more than enough time and clout to "rebuke" him as a Senator when it happened; he didn't.

"If I had been president, I would have ordered the plane landed at the nearest base and I'd have been over here." He repeated that later, saying, "I would've landed my airplane at the nearest Air Force base and come over personally."Which would have done what, exactly? Since the roads were choked with evacuees trying to get out and assistance units trying to get in, and since his presence would have closed those roads, all he would have done is make the situation much worse.

That's why Bush didn't go. His presence and the presence of his entourage would have only caused more trouble that it was worth just to score a couple of political points. In reality, the press would have been screaming PHOTO OP from the tops of the trees still standing.

I've already rethunk it.
I highlighted the asshole's name and punched the button on my electronic ballot once.
Never again.
I don't think Texas will be in play in the General anyway. Matters not. I won't vote for him.
As much and as often as I've yo-yoed back and forth, pro and con, since he became the presumptive nominee, I'm pretty sure that my decision is final.
We're screwed, no matter who we vote for.
If the nation is going to hell, then let the Democrats take the rap for it.
I'm truly finished with John McCain.
Between blaming GWB for New Orleans --instead of putting the blame squarely where it belongs, and denouncing the North Carolina campaign ad as racist, he's finally ripped his drawers with me.
As I said on another thread, it time for the old bastard to take a dirt nap.
Him and Jimmy Carter.

Ummm Actually, I did a little investigating. I took various samples of the (R) after McCain's name in numerous articles. And scanning the (R)'s I loaded them into a high end graphics analysis program. Utilizing complex numeric algorithms, and collaborating with top scientists at NASA, we have sent our findings to various groups, in research centers around the world. They have all worked with the top forensic scientists in their respective countries to confirm our findings. After downloading advanced Extra-terrestrial Alien technology, and using fractal pixel regeneration super computers, we have made a shocking discovery about those little (R)'s after McCain's name.
We have discovered that when the ()'s are removed, and the "R" is magnified by an order of magnitude, it reveals that there are some shenanigans going on, as you can observe the results for yourself!

...and broken just HOW MANY federal laws in the process? Hey there, clueless one!! Yeah, you Johnnie Mac...the Feds can do absolutely NOTHING until the GOVERNOR of the state declares the place a disaster area! Why do you think the response time to the floods, here in the Red River Valley of North Dakota (back in '97) were so damned FAST?????? Because Governor John Hoeven declared the entire Valley a disaster area BEFORE the FIRST city flooded!! They KNEW it was coming and took the precautions necessary to have emergency personnel in place.
The fiasco following Katrina can be laid DIRECTLY at the feet of the governor of Louisiana.
McCain's a farking putz!!!

While McCain is trying to distance himself from Bush by saying never again, the democratic congress is saying "next time" by refusing to authorize funds for levee repair.
