Here you go http://data.giss.nasa.gov/gistemp/2005/
1998 was a record high year, and according to NASA GISS, it was elevated .2oC above the existing trend line by the strongest El Nino of the century. Choosing that year as a starting point is a classic cherry pick and demonstrates why it is necessary to remove the very chaotic interannual variability that exists in the annual mean. Looking at the NASA graph above you can see the smoothed line in red, which represents a 5 year mean (thus it stops in 2003 as we won't know the mean for 2005 for two more years)´.

How do I respond and what does that stuff mean? I need help with someone.

This is all you need to know:

— J. Hansen, R. Ruedy, M. Sato, and K. Lo

Hansen is a world-class Gorebot. The fact that the idiot works for NASA doesn't give his crap credibility.

Is Global Warming Alarmist James Hansen a Shill for George Soros? (http://www.newsbusters.org/blogs/jake-gontesky/2007/09/26/global-warming-alarmist-james-hansen-shill-george-soros)

15-Year-Old Byrnes Outsmarts NASA’s Global Warming Alarmist James Hansen (http://www.newsbusters.org/node/13282)

The 'Old' Consensus? (http://www.investors.com/editorial/editorialcontent.asp?secid=1501&status=article&id=275267681833290)

His crap has been debunked. And 1998 was not the record year, 1934 (http://www.americanthinker.com/printpage/?url=http://www.americanthinker.com/blog/2007/08/revised_temp_data_reduces_glob.html) was.

You can also remind them that the "strongest of the century" El-nina was wiped out by a strong La-nina the very next year.

Plus ask them why are they avoiding the IPCC's favorite source,HadleyCrut3 temperature series?

They can whine all they want about the "cherrypick" angle. The fact remains is that no year has been as warm and there has been no warming trend above statistical noise in the last 10 years.

Notice that GISS is by far the favorite for these desperate AGW believers.A data set that is increasingly being exposed as being manipulated by James Hansen.Climate Audit has been all over his strange statistical gerrymandering.

What about HadleyCrut3,MSU,RSS temperature data centers? They are all faily similar with each other.GISS is by far warmer and that is why it is being regarded as suspect.
