As we have been told, the Federal government passed legislation to the effect that each individual who filed a 2007 tax return is to receive a rebate check. The rebate checks are to be sent out in April through July.
The purpose is to stimulate our economy. So, be very careful how and where you spend your rebate money.
If we spend that money at Wal-Mart, all the money will go to China.
If we spend it on gasoline it will go to the Arabs.
If we purchase a computer it will go to India.
If we purchase fruit and vegetables it will go to Mexico, Honduras, and Guatemala.
If we purchase a good car, it will go to Japan.
If we purchase useless trinkets it will go to Taiwan and none of it will help the American economy.
We need to keep that money here in America. The only way to keep that money here at home is to spend it at yard sales, since those are practically the only businesses still in the U.S.
I really don't know what I should do...laugh? Or cry??

This may shock many, but... you don't have to spend the money. You could always invest it or stick it in your IRA/401k/etc.
Just a thought.

Imagine how many lap dances $500 will get. If that doesn't stimulate something, I'm a Keynesian.

We will be using our stimulus check to help pay for our vacation trip so that we don't have to dig so far into our savings. So, in effect, we are saving it.

Paying off the last $500 dollars in outstanding credit card debt, going out to dinner and saving the rest...have been thinking about putting the rest towards the principle on the mortgage, but we're already going to pay of a 30 year note in 12-15 years.

Since we retired, we have been able to pay our credit card bills as soon as they arrive.
We are taking 2 vacations this year - one to San Antonio with our son, daughter-in-law, and grandkids wrapped around the Texas State Bowling Tournament and the other to PA to attend Mrs. Tex's high school reunion.

Cool. The interest on a credit card will KILL you financially. It's going to be nice to get rid of that last "outstanding" balance.
After it's zeroed out, we're only going to charge what we can pay off every month. A CC is only a benefit if it is used properly...as an instrument to "float" yourself a loan every month.
