Well, I finally got it done.

For a year or so, I've been working on a range here at the DiamondH.

Mrs Lobo built the backstop. I built the stall/bench.

I have finally completed an automatic target retrieval system.

If I can get hold of a digital camera, I'll provide pics.

I used an old battery operated drill (18V), that the batteries had died for. It's reversible, variable speed, and has a clutch.

I removed the bad cells (basically rechargable 'C' batteries) from the battery pack, and wired it with a 19V power supply. It constantly recharges what batteries are left. I set up a 100 ft pulley system, and can have the target "running at me" and practice some SERIOUS failure drill stuff.

Wish I could've worked it out to about 100 yds, but the weight of the rope on two pulleys, at the height I wanted, just sagged too much.

The bench is padded with a padded rest. Perfect height.

I ROCK!!!

Anyone want to come on over and try it out?

Only thing I am lacking, is a padded tarp or something to cover the bench with.

Haven't figured out what to use yet.

Was considering some vinyl, like on restaurant benches, but DANG that stuff is expensive.

So far, the entire project has cost me less than $50. Used some lumber laying around, some tree trunks for the backstop. Paid for new rope and pulleys.

I have GOT to figure out how to get a video saved to my hard drive and uploaded for you to see this.

On a related note: Got dad a new .22 magnum semi-auto rifle for father's day. We were scoping it in.

I got the sights just about nailed, then ran three more rounds though it. Looked through the scope at the target and only saw two holes in the red. I said to dad "No way I missed, wonder what happened."

We pulled the target back. Underneath was another target that we had been using, and the one on the bottom had a slightly elongated hole.

I had put two .22 mag rounds through the same hole. I mean this was virtually impossible to see on the front target, but the rear target had shifted enough to see it.

I about choked.

Granted, it was at 100 feet, and not 100 yds, but MAN!

I wanna try! Well, once I get my uncle's old Remington Model 24 fully refinished...its that Browning design .22 semi-auto with bottom ejection and magazine tube in the stock. Its downright cute...since it had been a trapper's rifle for 20 years, it was in bad shape. Broken stock, cracked receiver and no real finish left.

I pinned the stock and glued it with epoxy. The receiver has been welded and dressed so the crack is now gone...the barrel was draw filed to remove rust pits, then spun to a fine finish, using red rouge for that final shine to a mirror finish.

I used epoxy on the old walnut furniture...its beautiful and durable. Old growth walnut has a beautiful look to it. This petite rifle barely weighs 4 pounds.

Isn't thre a paint that just came out that's sorta like vinyl???

Maybe you gotta a friend that would spray a bedliner type covering on it.
