Where's the rest of it?
Yes, I've seen a couple of them on the road. There are a couple of problems that I can see: It's a two-seater. It doesn't get great gas mileage (a little over 30 mpg, I believe). A four-seater Prius costs a lot more, but gets equal or even much better gas mileage.

The "smart car" reminds me of the Shanklin parody song, "In a Yugo," played by Rush. The libs in their Yugo are crushed by a garbage truck in the original version and by an SUV in the revised version. One would have to be dumb to drive a dangerous car like the "smart car."

Unless there's 18 holes on my drive into work, I don't see why I should hop into that cart.

Soon as they deliver 150 mpg, a 15 gallon tank, four seats and top end at 120 mph, I'm gonna git me one.
Oh, yeah: Those little bitty tires don't cut it. Smaller the tires, rougher the ride. Put 17's on there, boys.

Quitcherbitchin', DF. If one of those wittle tires goes flat, you've probably got a spare on yer wheelbarrow.
:D
Saw a bunch of these when I went to Europe last year. They're great for somewhere like Rome, where the streets are tiny and parking is at a premium. For the US? Not so much. The "Urkelmobile" might be cool, but it is not practical.

No point to them. I just like crashes and weird little cars.
Still want my challenger.

Wasn't the Studebaker Avanti (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Studebaker_Avanti#Early_orders_and_problems) discontinued during the 1964 model year?

Yep, I'm typing this from Italy right this second. The Smart car is great for parking in these tiny streets. Europe needs them. But in America, they're not ideal or suitable.

The supposed parking advantage would be minimal, if you'll pardon the expression. It would be difficult to find another small car to share a parking space, and in many places, it would be illegal to do so anyway.

We just returned from a long-weekend trip to San Antonio in my dream car (a 2007 Chevrolet HHR) and we got 30.8 mpg, including driving through Houston traffic to get there and back and some driving in city traffic in S.A. Most of the way there and back we drove at 70 MPH with full A/C.

I'll take the K-Car please. Just take a look at that engineering! It's destined to become a classic.

If you're able to get over 30 mpg in an HHR, which, unlike the Smart, is not an "econoobx," then it makes a lot more sense to drive it than a glorified golf cart.

If you think this car might be a little too small for you, look on the bright side: just about everything else out there that's street legal is bigger!

Just look at the grin on that guys face (I'm sure it's there somewhere behind the mustache). I bet that car's a CHICK MAGNET! All you Harley guys might want to think of trading in. Uh...only if your single of course. Otherwise, this car might bring you a pack of trouble in a tube-top.:smirky:
