A chance encounter in Israel between vets and a giraffe has led to a rabbinical ruling that the African animal is kosher.

I suppose you can wash it down with long necked bottles of beer.

Tim Butcher in JerusalemI went to school with Tim Butcher. Not this Tim Butcher, though. The one I went to school with died about nine or ten years ago, or so I heard.
Interesting that a person named Butcher would be writing an article about whether an animal is kosher, though.

And you should SEE the purses they make from their skins! They're to DIE for! I can get one for you wholesale.

They might be kosher, but the Israeli giraffe (Giraffa hebrewis) is on the endangered species list. Actually there are about 180,000 of them, but they have evolved the ability to be invisible unless they are not being observed (a trait shared by Sasquatch, Nessie and snipes), which makes sightings of them very rare. They HAVE been seen by CCTV cameras, which led to the ESL entry.

Only if one has a Decept-O-Matic Model 100 Snipe Fooler, which deceives them into believing that no one is looking and causes them to become visible. Fortunately, they're not too bright.
Note: hunting this snipe is not allowed. It was so named in order to bend the rules of snipe hunting. Cheaters have no shame.
