<!-- end storyhdr --> NEW HAVEN, Conn. - Paul Newman, the legendary actor and philanthropist, is battling cancer, his longtime neighbor and business partner said Wednesday. Newman, 83, has recently appeared gaunt in photos, and dropped plans to direct a play in his Connecticut hometown.

I always thought he was very handsome. He has those blue eyes I love. :sad:

Good. I wanna remember his ass as it was in Cool Hand Luke.

When I's leaving Panama in 1987 I saw a black GI who looked just like Newman, to include the blue eyes and even the grin. Weirdest thing you ever saw.

I tend to think him more as a flaming lib who sells salad dressing and drives (or used to drive) race cars.

Yeah. I never paid Newman no attention after The Sting. My wife brought home Absence of Malice and I knew then that Newman was taking just any old role he could get. He was superb in the Sixties and early Seventies and then lost it during Carter.

Lotsa folks lost it during Carter.

Yes, Newman is a lefty, alright. Very chummy with Robert Redford, and all that.

But I agree with Suze. He used to be very handsome. IAC, I felt sorry for him when his son died of OD. I hear all the profits from his salad dressings go to some sort of drug rehabilitation center.

And he is a rarity in that he has been married to the same woman since the 1950's. You don't see that very much in Hollywood.
