They deserve our respect not our sympathy.

Sometimes it isn’t easy letting your kids grow up, when they turn eighteen you find out really quick that there are some things that you have absolutely no say so in. Take for instance our daughter she just graduated high school and will be going to boot camp mid July, she joined the Air Force and she is thrilled, and in some ways I am too, in others the parent ways I am scared. Not that she will be physically injured or killed because I have asked my Heavenly Father to keep watch over her and he has done a wonderful job so far. No I am scared that she will run across those people who think that anyone who joins the military are stupid and have no other choices in life, I am afraid she will run across many of the people we do, you know the kind, just like me and you who when you hear they have joined the military you have the have you planned the funeral yet look on your face or you are thinking can’t you talk some sense into her, I am not angry at you because I suppose up until now I was the same way.

For the last eight years pretty much the media has ingrained in us that only losers join the military, that it is an instant death sentence, that our children are being sent to Iraq and Afghanistan to die, we have been told the war is lost, we have been told that the young men and women who are over there have been turned into mind numbed killing machines, dear God the things they have told us would scare anyone whose child just signed up or was thinking about it. I never in my life would have guessed that my daughter miss messy queen herself would join an organization that would require her to be neat and clean at all times, but she did. Are we aware that she might have to go to Iraq or Afghanistan, fully aware I can tell you, but there again I am not as concerned for her safety from the terrorists as I am from the media, I don’t want them anywhere near her simply because they have already decided before she ever completes boot camp that she isn't worth anything, she is stupid, she has no future and she will be just another mind numbed robot, at least the terrorists believe them capable of winning or they wouldn’t still be fighting.

My daughter is a whiz at math, she is even better in drafting, she is extremely good with formulas and all that stuff I will never be able to understand and she loves aeronautics and she will be able to study and have hands on experience no college or university can offer and be allowed to take other college courses while she is at it and she is in Heaven. She knows there is always the possibility that she may get sent to war but she refuses to dwell on it, she is happy and she is proud and so are we. We must stop looking at these young men and women who have volunteered to serve our country like they will never come back. Stop thinking the way the media has trained us to, these are very bright individuals who have decided that this is the career path they wish to take and we as a country should be beaming with pride not hanging our head in shame. These are our children, the best and the brightest, the kids we all thought only thought of them selves, they are thinking about others, they are serving others and some of them are doing so in very dangerous places and they deserve our respect not our sympathy.
