It is widely reported that women suffer depression at twice the rate of men. Apparently, more women are clinically depressed than ever before. On the assumption that these assessments are true, the question anyone interested in the subject -- which means anyone who cares about any woman -- asks is, why?

In a recent column I offered one explanation -- the impossibly high expectations for happiness that feminism created for many women.

There are other possible explanations.

One is the way in which many girls have been raised.

It has to do with hormones of course, and the modern lifestyle not being much like the type of life that went on for 10s of thousands of years while women evolved. (There's a need for more physical activity.)

But that won't stop feminists and other wackos from exploiting it for political gain.

There are other things having to do with traditional values that work on a social / psychological level. Now that they've all been rejected by feminism and the LSM (lamestream media), supersticious beliefs have to move in to fill the information gap.

I agree. It's both genders that are guilty. The males (not men, males) treat women like crap. It's thanks to the feminazis and leftism that things are like this now.

Gender feminism (as opposed to equity feminism) is the prollem.

As Christine Hoff Summers argues in her landmark Who Stole Feminism?, gender feminism nurtures and encourages resentment in women, and resentment is a destructive emotion. It doesn't abate as readily as other emotions and is less subject to reason once one falls into it.

A woman who buys into the Hate-Men ideology is at cross purposes with a woman's whole reason for being, so that she ends up hating herself and not even realizing it. When you hate yourself, you feel depressed -- and should.

I'm sure there are just as many men depressed as women. Thing is there are more diagnosed depressed women than men. Most men in a bad mood wouldn't go to a psychiatrist and would deal with it in other ways like drinking. Thats probably why there are more male alcoholics....

Could be, but I think depression in many cases is alleviated by higher testosterone levels. Somebody just did a study that showed that successful salesmen have higher testosterone levels than other guys, and the hypothesis is that that gives them the greater confidence they need to succeed as salesmen.

Women, quite simply, are more complex critters than men are. It stands to reason, at least to me, that depression caused by blood chemistry imbalances (which I have) would occur more in the more complex than the less complex.

It is to a great extent, though, Girl. Back in Maine, I had a co-worker who was the epitome of the duped-by-feminism woman.

This woman did believe that because she was a woman, she could - and HAD to - do and be everything ... at the same time. She worked, she was in full command of her house - meaning that she got constant phone calls from the family front, "reporting" about the developments of their day - she worked out, she studied for something or other ... and she ended with a severe nervous breakdown.

When during one of her crying crises, I tried to console her by trying to explain to her that one needn't do and be everything all at once, she lashed out at me "Why not?! Women are capable of everything so they should have everything!"

Well, as you can imagine I mentally shrugged the whole thing off, and restrained myself from offering any future consolation.

Yes, feminazis have convinced women that they can have everything. Worst of all, they convinced women that it's not their fault if they don't have everything. It's some vast white male conspiracy thrown at them that prevents women from owning the world. So, seeing as how you cannot have EVERYTHING in this life - in the majority of cases, not without forsaking a lot of other things, if you get the irony - is it any wonder that the gullible ones get depressed? Can you imagine what it must be to go through life believing that the whole male species is plotting against you on a daily basis?

They can't enjoy sex because "men a pigs and cannot commit." When they finally get the pigs to commit, they cannot ejoy healthy relationship because men mainly want them pregnant and in the kitchen. They cannot enjoy their kids because kids bind you and prevent you from having a career. They cannot enjoy a career because evil white males stand in the way of their every deserved promotion. They can't enjoy a promotion because they believe they are still - and will be forever - underpaid.

With that mentality, it's a miracle some women are not on permanent suicide watch.
