MODEL SUICIDE (http://www.nypost.com/seven/06282008/news/regionalnews/model_suicide_117616.htm)
KAZAKH BEAUTY JUMPS TO DEATH IN FINANCIAL DISTRICT

A stunning supermodel leaped from her swank downtown apartment to her death today in an apparent suicide, officials said.

Ruslana Korshunova, 20, whose face has graced the cover of French Elle and Russian Vogue, apparently jumped from her ninth-floor apartment in her Water Street building in the Financial District just before 2:30 p.m.

Only 20 years old, :shake: Thoughts and prayers go out to her family, friends and loved ones.

Guess being beautiful, healthy, young, rich and famous just wasn't enough.

This is what happens when one values physical appearance over the value of the mind and its abilities.

I'd think this is what happens when one has severe depression. Those who don't have it can't imagine.

I can, and when I was at my worse my faith was at its weakest.

I understand and sympathize. I don't have real bad depression, but what I do have has negatively impacted my life.

Yes indeed. One never really knows what is going on in the mind of someone like this. My mother killed herself a little over half a year ago, so I understand what it's like for the family. So many questions even if the person leaves a note.

Same here, if my faith is strong then so am I. If I have doubts or don't feel I have enough faith I am an absolutely pathetic human being, and I feel negative about everything.

That wild, tiger look in the eyes; those thick, luscious lips; the perfect nose and high cheekbones.

Maybe. I've passed women in the halls and on the streets that put to shame any Miss Universe since Vanessa Williams. I've seen those tiger eyes and luscious lips and curves that send a man's mind straight south.

Ok, I'm risking being called a lot of things here, but what the hell, it wouldn't be the first time.

Discarding depression - if you read the article, nobody made even the slightest allusion to anything of the sort; on the contrary, being "on top of the world" can hardly be considered suicidal mood - this girl had everything in life. What was there to commit suicide over?

I'm sorry, but I am a bit tired of hearing about the Plight of the Model. The only problem I see here is girls who are just too immature to handle the pressures of life. Look at Kate Moss. A junkie who sleeps with every weirdo that crosses her path.

Have you any idea how many people there are in this world - age immaterial - who are given a bad lot, but yet strive to make it one way or the other? And I am supposed to cry rivers over beautiful young women, because the "pressure" of being young, beautiful, worshipped, and rich is too much for the poor things?

Sorry. My sympathies are strictly reserved for her family. Didn't this girl give even the most passing thought of what effect her suicide would have on them? Did it ever cross her mind that perhaps nobody will provide for them now?

Oh, and for those who think I "don't understand depression," let me tell you that I too have been there and done that. Depression runs in my family like brown eyes. So, yes, I do understand depression.

I know, I know. I'm a hard-hearted, uncaring so and so. Well, I neve said I was perfect.

^^^ I agree with you Maggie. Something people don't like to hear is that when someone is suicidal they are at their most selfish and self-absorbed.

"the Plight of the Model."

Pardon my being pedantic, but shouldn't that read, "the Flight of the Model"?

Not when she crashed.

That would be the "landing", then. And you are quite right, Prez. It had to be more dramatic than the flight thingee.

Yeah, it isn't the fall that kills ya...it's the sudden stop at the end.

Up here, we call it "deceleration trauma".

Thank you, Prez. It's difficult not to feel sorry for people who commit suicide. But in this case, it's just such a waste. There are women who would give anything to have half the benefits this girl enjoyed, frivolous as that may sound.

Models. As soon as they achieve fame and riches, the first thing they do is become drug-addled sluts. They can whistle for my sympathy.

Time and time again we see how beauty and "perfection" don't make people happy...look at all the stars in Hollywood in rehab...the models that keep getting thinner and thinner and die from drugs or taking their own lives. Yet for some reason our young girls think that if they could attain the perfection they see in videos, movies and in print that THEY would be happy. I hear it from my 7 yo step-daughter already...and it saddens me...saddens me deeply.

This girl thought of no one but herself. She had a life that many dream about...and like Maggie said, she was totally self absorbed. I feel for her family, I sincerely do.
