Can't Chat

For the first time I had noticed in the Who's Online box, there were people chatting in the chat room. I've never done that before so I thought I'd give it a try.

When the chatroom screen came up, all I saw was a large mostly empty square where I presume the text should be. I say mostly empty because there was a small white square in the upper left corner of this text box. Inside the white square was a smaller red square, green circle and a blue triangle. I believe this means I have disabled some sort of a java script, but I am not computer savvy enough to re-enable it. http://freeconservatives.com/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/sad.gif Can anyone help? Check your Control Panel and see if you have Java Plug in there.

If you do not, you can go to Sun's site (http://java.sun.com/j2se/1.4.2/download.html) and download the latest version. Download the Download J2SE v 1.4.2 version w/out the Cobundle.

It is possible that you do not have the latest Java updates from Microsoft. It does not hurt to update it anyway.

What version of Windows are you running?

Also, what browser are you using? IE? Netscape? Opera?

I haven't yet checked my java setting. I'm using Win 98 and I believe IE 5.5. I'm gonna look into that java now. Thanx. I'll be back if I run into trouble.

Ah. Then you probably have an old java version that does not support the chat client. The client I assume would need at least version 1.3.

Go to Sun's site and update.
