Here's something that I don't get about that part of the world. How long has human civilization existed there? Let me rephrase: how long has there been a human presence there? Most people say from the beginning of humanity (whether you believe it's a few thousand years, or tens if not hundreds of thousands). So why do these people continue to eke out a barely Stone-Age existence, carrying goats across rickety bridges for God only knows what purpose?

In contrast, homophobic white male Christian barbarians like some of us have been in North America for barely 400 years and yet have created one of the most highly developed cultures and civilizations known in the history of man.
