Are we undergoing some kind of sea change of attitudes in America today?
Washington Post columnist E.J. Dionne reflects such sentiment -- perhaps I should say wishful thinking -- by those on the left that indeed we are. He says capitalism is having a "reality check."
The era of big government is back, according to Dionne. Americans now want to re-regulate, re-tax, redistribute, and re-socially engineer.
I don't think so.
What we do know is that Americans are unhappy with the state of their country (almost 85 percent say they are dissatisfied) and their political leaders (more than 70 percent are unhappy with their president and 90 percent are unhappy with the Congress).

A man much wiser in such matters then myself once lamented...
If it moves, tax it. If it keeps moving, regulate it. And if it stops moving, subsidize it.
The only thing I know for sure is that anything the government tries to fix - it ends up making worse. NO EXCEPTION.
There is absolutely nothing 545 lawyers can accomplish of worth or of particular value to liberty, prosperity or the quality of life in the United States. NOTHING.
The best we can hope for is that they will be happy with their exorbitant salary, their generous benefit package and golden parachutes and leave We the People the hell alone! PERIOD.

You see, this is how they do it...
Those who would be our masters (in this case, the Leftists who have infested our government) regulate the basic supplies and suppliers of our prosperity first - they do so in the name of a variety of Leftist-created victims - Disenfranchised Minorities, the environment (even as far as created a sentient being out of it), and everyone in reference to safety and health...
Then once these regulations begin to take their inevitable toll on our prosperity and the quality of our lives in the form of loss of freedoms, loss of the family unit, climbing, unmanagable prices of food and fuel and medicine, the people become unhappy, and nervous, and fearful, and in some cases, hateful and bitter and aggressive...
Then the very same government who created the stress and fear and tension, steps up, declares that all this is the fault of the old system that gave us our prosperity BEFORE the regulations came, and it is now high time we changed everything over to a complete committment to socialism...
They begin to openly outlaw freedom and at the point of a gun, herd us into the cages they always planned for us - All the while telling us that times have changed and mankind has evolved socially and we can no longer ALLOW the kind of reckless, unregulated freedoms that we so irresponsibly indulged in for so many generations... That we, by our irresponsible greed and recklessness are threatening our very planet and our existance - and WE must be regulated by the wise masters for our own good...
This is the future we are facing in the next 4 years, friends... I strongly recommend that everyone here take stock of their lives, and look seriously at the very real threat we are facing, and prepare yourselves and your loved ones for the coming long winter... The America that the founding fathers gave us just might disappear before our eyes in the next 4 years...

And let's not forget the reconstitution of the Democratic Party either. Polls based on likely Democratic voters today are going to face a different mix than 20 years ago. Some of those people may have tried calling themselves likely Republican voters for a while, pulling down the Republican Party numbers as they discover what many older, wiser (sometimes former)-Republicans already knew (there is no lesser-of-two-evils).
The working man no longer has a party in the USA. Women only think that they do, and then mainly if they abandon their husbands and marry themselves to the government cult.

Dead on, muh man. They regulate oil companies to death then turn around and blame them for the very high oil prices they created. They create artificial wage floors using min. wage and then blame the con regime for the increase in unemployment that follows. They regulate businesses with so many damn employment laws, then blame them for offshore jobs where those regulations don't exist when all they were trying to do is survive against the tyranny of the newfound democrat slave state.
They create the problems, then blame the other side for them. They rape you, then tell you to put a bag of ice on your crotch and quit whining and stop wearing so much revealing clothes.
