At least 900 cops to help at DNC

At least 900 officers are being brought into Denver to help at next month's Democratic National Convention.

Suburban Aurora will send the largest contingent, 300 police officers, or half the force.

The Wyoming National Guard will send 22 members who are trained to detect nuclear, chemical and biological weapons.

At least 582 officers have been committed from Lakewood, Littleton, Colorado Springs, Boulder, Englewood, Jefferson County, Arapahoe County and Adams County. More are expected from Douglas County, Brighton, Broomfield and Arvada.

Some will go on routine patrols with Denver police to free up the city's officers for convention work.

Denver police won't say how many officers will be working at the convention.

Thousands of protestors are expected to converge at the DNC.

Perhaps it's because the cops in Denver are having such a hard time getting the right to disarm protestors of weapons.

There was an article the other day about the City considering whether or not to give the police the authority to confiscate weighted pipes and chains.

The only thing that worries me is that I have very dear friends who live in Denver... Maybe they should come to stay with me that week...

I don't wish mayhem and distruction on Denver, especially for the sake of the police, but won't it be glorious when this unsupervised asylum explodes and spills out on the streets in a riot... Sorry Lub, I don't keep up with the Olympics so I can't answer your question... I lost interest in the Summer Olympics years ago - and this year its being hosted by one of the most barbaric naitons on the globe... I heard recently that the Chinese government has ordered restaurants to remove "Dog" from their menus "for the duration of the Olympics" so as to not offend Western visitors...

We had a thread here a while back on the preparation methods the Chinese use to "tenderize" dogs for dinner table... People should re-visit that thread (if you have the stomach for it) before they decide to indulge in celebration of the Olympic games... Those games legitimize this murderous, barabric culture...

I will not be watching the China Olympics...

It happened more recently than 1968. They were spit on at the New York convention in 2000, and I believe at a recent DNC convention as well. It was either cops or military, but it's reprehensible either way.

When I read about people spitting on the Honor Guard at the New York State Democratic Convention May 16, I started to understand what has happened to my party over the last few years. I still can't get over the fact that Democrats attending a formal convention would so insult the American flag, but it happened. As an Honor Guard of Albany police officers entered the convention hall - with band playing and lights shining - they were spit on and called "Nazis" by a number of people on the delegate floor. On top of that, no Democrat nearby stopped the "spitters," or even reported them.
