President Bush pressed lawmakers Tuesday to lift a ban on offshore oil drilling, saying "the only thing standing between the American people and these vast oil resources is action from the U.S. Congress."
President Bush wants Congress to repeal a law that prohibits offshore oil drilling.
President Bush wants Congress to repeal a law that prohibits offshore oil drilling.
On Monday, the president lifted an executive order that prohibited offshore drilling. A 1981 law barring the practice remains in effect, however, and Congress would have to vote to repeal the law before any drilling could occur. Congressional Democrats have opposed efforts to repeal the ban.
"The sooner Congress lifts the ban, the sooner we can get these resources from the ocean floor to the refineries, to the gas pump," the president said.
"Democratic leaders have been delaying action on offshore exploration, and now they have an opportunity to show that they finally heard the frustrations of the American people," Bush said. "They should match the action I have taken, repeal the congressional ban and pass legislation to facilitate responsible offshore exploration."

Liberals in CONgress promised that they would take care of the oil crisis if they were elected.
They were. And we now have to pay an inheritance at the pump.
Serves people right for trusting liberals.

Because Republicans lost sight of conservative values and enraged their constituents we got Reid, Pelosi and a democrat congress. I can see that the same philosophical and ideological divergence may get us Obamma, with a democrat congress. How far down the crapper do we have to send America to make Republicans act responsibly, become men again, and fight the malevolent liberal juggernaut destroying our way of life and sacrificing our freedom for socialist internment.

Ain't gonna happen with the crop of Pubs ensconced within the beltway today. They're in it for the power trip, the "fame". but mostly they're in it for the retirement package....nothing more.....nothing less. They, like their Dem counterparts, could give a rat's ass about this country. Plain and simple. If you are looking for a beltway politician that ACTUALLY is there for his constituents or his country, you've got a looong hard search ahead of you. The ONLY reason they "throw a bone" to their constituents, which, by the way, is done only during an election cycle, is so they will be reelected. Again, plain and simple.
The Dems???? Now THEY have an agenda.........DESTROY AMERICA!!
edit: And they KNOW that the Pub side of the aisle is a sham....that's why they're so bold in their pursuit of our destruction.

Serves people right for trusting liberals. And now we will see if the GOP has enough political savvy anymore to make use of this GOLDEN political opportunity to retake Congress... You couldn't make a better opportunity than what the Pubs have with this gasoline crisis...
The question now is, Do the Pubs remember how to play hardball politics? Or are they just emasculated, ineffective, fat government slobs?
