Gee, I wonder why . . .

The Oregonian newspaper is closing three metro bureaus and merging the staffs into three other bureaus.

Fred Stickel, publisher of Oregon's largest daily newspaper, said the staff of the bureaus in Gresham, Tigard and Vancouver, Wash., will move to the south bureau in Oregon City, the west bureau in Southwest Portland and the Multnomah County bureau in Portland.

Goldschmidt admits to "affair" with 14 year old babysitter. That was the headline that did it for me. Havent spent a dime on it since.
Goldschmidt was the boy-wonder mayor of Portland in the mid-'70s (sort of Portland's version of Dennis Kucinich). He went on to a cabinet post in the Carter administration (Secretary of Transportation), then served as Governor "for" Oregon in the late '80s, but didn't seek re-election. The rest of what we know about him is alluded to in Yo Yo's post.

Goldschmidt also did a lucrative stint as an over-paid trophy VP at NIKE.

The only thing that he was good at was talking louder and faster than his opponents, thereby winning debates and grabbing as much TV and radio air time as humanly possible.
