From down Florida way.
GOP has big money lead in local races

BY JOHN McCARTHY • FLORIDA TODAY • July 29, 2008

More than half a million dollars has been pumped into local political races for this election season.
And that is only for 2007 and the first quarter of 2008.
The number comes from a FLORIDA TODAY analysis of campaign contributions recorded at the Brevard County Supervisor of Elections Office in Titusville.
For the first time, newspaper staff members converted the paper records into a searchable and "sortable" database that allows a closer look at campaign giving.
The analysis also found:
Republican candidates raised far more money than Democrats. Local GOP candidates raised nearly $444,000 compared with just over $58,000 for Democratic opponents.
