Posting as "Skeptic" at Democratic Underground, I stated the following in response to a post alleging that Reagan conspired to prolong the Iranian hostage crisis in order to win the '80 election:

tsstranger: "Didn't it strike anyone as a bit odd that the hostages were released on the day Reagan was sworn in?"
Yeah, it's odd that Reagan didn't arrange for them to be home for Christmas. That would have been well after the election, so even if Carter had gotten credit, it wouldn't have made any difference. Furthermore, it would have taken away a lot of the sting in case Reagan's role were revealed, since many Americans would have overlooked his underhanded political ploy and looked instead at the timing: "At least he got the hostages home for Christmas."
Doesn't it also strike you as a bit odd that nothing about this has been proven through all these years since then? Doesn't it strike you as odd that none of the hostages, nobody in the Iranian government, nobody in the American government has provided, to my knowledge, any proof that Reagan engineered the hostage crisis and/or its end to ensure a victory over Carter in '80?

And here is the eloquent response from one of the Democratic Underground members to my post: <BLOCKQUOTE><font size="1" face="Verdana, Helvetica, sans-serif">quote:</font><HR>
