US swim legend Mark Spitz won't be on hand in Beijing if Michael Phelps breaks his record of seven gold medals at a single Olympics—because, he says, no one bothered to invite him.

I read the article and wanted to heave my guts out. What an egotistical ass wipe this guy is.Someone ought to tell him he's good, not GOD.

He should have been invited...7 gold medals in ONE Olympics...then again, until there's a legitimate chance his record WILL be broken, I understand not wasting the time/resources.
Of course, he shouldn't be whining about it either...

It was all an innocent mistake. Someone thought that Mark Spitz was not his name, but a reference to something that he does. Not wanting saliva in the pool and all, well, you know . . .

Pee might explain all those swimming records, though.
My more prosaic explanation would be that the pool is a little shorter than it's supposed to be.

That's the difference between swimmers and divers. Mark Spitz. Greg Swallows!
