China says U.S. seeking excuses for spy plane dispute

China accused the United States on Saturday of seeking excuses to evade responsibility for the spy plane drama by issuing old video footage of a Chinese fighter flying close to a U.S. surveillance aircraft.
"The U.S. side should take a co-operative attitude and not seek excuses to evade responsibility" for the April 1 collision between a Chinese F-8 fighter and a U.S. spy plane, Foreign Ministry spokesman Sun Yuxi told Reuters.

He was commenting on pictures issued by the Pentagon on Friday which showed the same Chinese F-8 fighter involved in the April 1 incident flying within feet of a U.S. EP-3 spy plane.

"I cannot see what the pictures prove. The details will be discussed within the scope of the negotiations," Sun said.

Officials of the two countries are due to meet on Wednesday to discuss the April 1 incident, in which the Chinese plane plunged into the South China Sea and the U.S. aircraft made an emergency landing on China's Hainan Island.

The 24 crew of the U.S. plane were freed on Thursday after 11 days in detention on Hainan.

"I cannot see what the pictures prove"... The picture proves the obvious. Wrong Way Wong was asking for it. Denying the obvious make the Chinese look like idiots to the world. I do believe we have more credibility than a bunch of short communists.

China keeps it up, and the U.S. is going to have an excuse for cancelling MFN.
