Awesome Blossom Baby!!!
Always been a Rush fan, just wish Neil Pert hadn't proved what a blithering idiot he is by expousing his political views a few years ago. Bleeeehhh....whatever Neil, STFU and go back to pounding on the drums. Stay with what yer good at... http://freeconservatives.com/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/icon129.gif

I must have missed that Wolf. I guess I see Neil more as a libertarian than anything else. Neil writes the lyrics for Rush's music (with the exception of the first album of course) and many of those lyrics seem to have an individualistic and anti-collective view (see the second quote of my signature). That said however, I don't agree with the message of all of his lyrics.
BTW, It's always great to meet a fellow Rush fan. http://freeconservatives.com/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/icon16.gif

Right backatcha TS!!
I've gotten a huge high off the band since I was knee high to a peyote....nudge nudge, wink wink. I will say I'm a fan of their earlier music more than their latest attempts. It's all fine with me, but I'm afraid my age is beginning to show in my preferences.
With respects to Neil, it was about 10-12 years ago and I heard him in an interview in passing. Now, I wasn't the most attentive sort back then, but I still recall thinking "jeez, shut up dude...nobody gives a rats ass about your world views". Maybe that was just a touch of intolerance on my part, but I was coming into my own in my views back then and it rubbed me the wrong way. Who knows, maybe I've had a misjudgement of him based on that one shot I heard. I will admit to the possibility of being in error on him, as I've blown calls on first impressions before. Truth be told, it's never truly crossed my mind before. Something for me to think about I'm sure. http://freeconservatives.com/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/dimbulb.gif

Cool! Another Rush fan. Nice to meet you Cat.
Were any of you able to see the Vapor Trails tour. I got to see them in St. Louis last August. No opening bands; it was all Rush. They played for about 2 hours and 40-45 minutes. It was an AWESOME SHOW!. You guys are dissapointed about the absence of "Red Barchetta". Many fans, including myself, were hoping to get to hear "The Camera Eye" live, but alas this was not to be. They did, however play an awesome acoustic version of "Resist". I had never really been very excited about that song until I heard the acoustic version. It was for me, perhaps, the best part of a great show. http://freeconservatives.com/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/icon16.gif

I actually missed the Vapor Trails tour. http://freeconservatives.com/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/sad.gif
I see the comments about Neil Peart above. I guess I missed when he voiced his policitical views as well. http://freeconservatives.com/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/crazy.gif All I can say is that he is an incredible drummer and writer. Rush wouldn't be Rush without him. Go back and listen to their first album. http://freeconservatives.com/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/rotflmbo.gif That first album was just bubblegum bebop. They wouldn't still be around today if they still had John Rutsey and didn't have Neil.
My all time favorite Rush tune (which does change from time to time http://freeconservatives.com/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/icon129.gif ) is La Villa Strangiatto - I got to see it performed live in Detroit about 12 years ago - it was so completely incredible!

I thought Neil was a die-hard conservative! What's up with his political views??

Peart is a follower of Ayn Rand and has been listed many times as a Libertarian.
From Self-Gov.org:
[ QUOTE ]
Drummer and chief lyricist for the dynamic rock band Rush, Neil Peart first discovered libertarian ideas through the works of Ayn Rand. Rush's 1976 album, 2112, was inspired by Rand's novel "Anthem," and in the liner notes Peart declares his admiration for "the genius of Ayn Rand."
Rush's last 16 albums have gone either gold or platinum, and the band has been a top live attraction since their first album in 1974. Peart is one of the most highly-praised drummers in rock music today.
Rush's songs often reflect a strong libertarian and individualist slant. Their best-known song, "Tom Sawyer," celebrates individual freedom. Among the lyrics: "His mind is not for rent/To any god or government."

October 2, Rush is going to be releasing for radio play the live version of "Working Man" recorded in Rio Last november. Here is the link to the track on their website. (http://rush.com/rushradio/) I believe you may need "Flash Player" for it. If you have dial-up, be patient. It is real real choppy the first time through. However, once it plays through completely, it will play smooth and uninterrupted after that. Enjoy. http://freeconservatives.com/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/icon16.gif

DID SOMEONE SAY RUSH??????????MY FAVORITE BAND??????????????????????????
Neil Peart is my influence on why I played percussion. If I was to meet anyone in life, I'd want to meet him. He's a genius in music along with the other bandmates.
LOVE THEM...I'm so getting their boxed set. Red Barchetta didn't make it?? That's not good. Please tell me that By Tor and the Snow Dog didn't make it..
I sure hope Camera Eye made it. LOVE THAT SONG..
but you all know that I really love Rush, the band.
Yum.

It's REAL COMPLETELY AWESOME, CAT!!! I watched Disk 1 (the concert dvd) Tuesday Night. Then last night, I watched half of the concert dvd with the family, till the kids had to go to bed and then my wife and I watched the behind the scenes documentary of the South American leg of the Vapor Trails Tour. She's not really a Rush fan, but she enjoyed it. There may be hope of converting her yet http://freeconservatives.com/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/biggrin.gif.
For those with surround sound, Disk 1 is recorded in Dolby Digital 5.1. I was dissappointed at first because I could not get the surround to work. Then I discovered that I had to go into the disk menu and select it (as opposed to straight stereo), then select play. I will warn you though, don't expect to watch this and hear the music as you would on a studio album. The filming and sound recording were done on the last night of the show. Due to severe weather and logistical problems (see documentary) equipment setup was later than usual (by several hours apparently). There was no time for a sound or camera check. The fact that they were even able to do this show much less film it was no small feat or miracle. Through my surround system; the Guitar, bass and the crowd seem to be in the foreground of the soundtrack while Geddy's vocals are not as up-front as one might expect. The sound does improve during the concert. That said, this is an awesome DVD. The surround sound really brings it home to you. As someone on another board said, this is a concert dvd that actually sounds like a concert.
I previously mentioned the crowd: They are kinda hard to miss in this video. They are the 40,000 or so fired-up individuals you see jumping and singing to YYZ. Apparently these Brazilians love their soccer matches and their Rush concerts as it is obvious they would be more than comfortable at either. One of my favorite camera shots of this video is from behind Neil as his drumset is shaking in front of a background consisting of this mass of humanity jumping up and down in unison. These are the people I want around me at the next Rush concert I attend. http://freeconservatives.com/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/icon16.gif
One of my favorite songs of the show is the acoustic version of "Resist" which Geddy and Alex play while Neil takes a breather after another fantastic drum solo (what's new, right SouthernRebelle?). Alex's solo on La Villa Strangiato is also fantastic; in my opinion, one of his best for this song I have heard. Of course Geddy continues to amaze as he plays bass, keyboards, sings, and still finds time to hop across the stage (as they say, busier than a one legged man at a but kicking contest).
Despite the audio having a mix I didn't quite expect, (I'm too used to "Show of Hands" I guess) I love this concert and I am getting used to the audio. I also love the documentary which is a more up-close view of the personalities of Geddy, Alex, and Neil than I, or perhaps most Rush fans, have previously seen. In addition to the documentary, disk two also contains three songs that have selectable camera angles for you to choose from. These songs are YYZ, O Baterista (Neil's drum solo), and La Villa Strangiato". There are also a couple of other goodies included on the set, but I'll let that be a surprise.
Before you sit down to watch this dvd set, a word of warning: Make yourself comfortable. Have drinks and snacks close at hand. The concert DVD alone is approximately 2 hours and 50 minutes long, while the documentary is nearly an additional hour. This dvd set really gives you your money's worth.
So what are you waiting for Cat?!!! Eat some chicken soup, grab a hanky, and run out and purchase this. It'll blow the sniffles right out of you!!! LOL
