Posted here for most visibility. PLEASE let it stay for a couple of hours.

A true friend and co-worker has a <2 year old son (Ryan) who has recently been diagnosed with cancer.

They found out Tuesday that he had something pressing against his kidney, and did an MRI. They found a "Wilm's" tumor growing inside his kidney. They are doing surgery on the little boy (as I type this), to remove his kidney, the adrenal glands on that side, and his appendix.

His parents are staying at the Ronald McDonald House in Temple, TX.

PLEASE go to your knees for this little boy. I weep as I type this. If you ever met this little guy, you'd fall in love with him immediately.

Pray for Ryan and his parents. Think about how fortunate you are that your children are healthy and thank God for His grace, and ask Him to show His mercy on this family.

Thank you...

Psalms 145:19 He will fulfil the desire of them that fear him: he also will hear their cry, and will save them.

John 14:14 If ye shall ask any thing in my name, I will do it

Dear Father in Heaven, we ask for this little boy to be healed and that he and his parents may enjoy the opportunity to enjoy and share their lives together, that the boy would live to attain manhood and experience the joy of having a family of his own, to watch his own children grow and develop into servants of Christ, and we ask it in the holy name of Thy precious Son, Jesus Christ.

WL, I will absolutely do that. I'll wait to hear from Lobo on when is a good time and if Ryan's parents have no objection.

The latest information that I have is that Ryan successfully made it through surgery, and the doctors have sent the tissue off for a biopsy.

I expect to hear more today when other folks arrive at work.

They're currently getting nailed by phone calls, so they request they not be called right now.

If anyone wants to, they can make a donation of $10 to the Ronald McDonald House in Temple. Ten dollars per night is all they ask. It provides meals and a place to sleep.

LadyHawke, the RM house in Temple is always looking for someone to volunteer to cook meals ALL the time.

I will be taking up a collection at work to help Ryan's mom and dad not have to deal with cooking for the next couple of days. I'm working with a restaurant manager friend of mine to provide some help.

Any suggestions?

Does the Ronald McDonald House in Temple Texas have a website? If so you could provide a link to the site or a link to donate.

Ronald McDonald House of Temple (http://www.rmh-temple.com/wishlist.html)

I have sent an email to "Susan" at the RMH of Temple, and hope to get a reply soon.

Update on Ryan:

They removed the tube from his nose yesterday, and his catheter on on Sunday. He was VERY pleased about that.

He can sit in bed with pillows propping him up, and even stood for a couple of minutes Sunday afternoon.

He isn't running the halls yet, but they expect it soon.

He hates having his blood pressure checked, and was bummed out about having to watch football instead of baseball.

He doesn't complain a great deal, he's pretty tough.

The pathology report was due yesterday, but I haven't been updated on it yet.

His parents appreciate all the prayers and thoughtfulness shown by all as they go through this trying time.

I will update as I hear more.

I received an update e-mail:

[ QUOTE ]
We heard from (Ryan's dad) a little while ago and this is what they know. The pathology shows that it is a Wilm's tumor - Stage I favorable. This is good news. However, they are going to send a tissue sample to a doctor who specializes in Wilm's tumors to get additional information.

They plan to put the porta-cath (sp?) in tomorrow (Tuesday). And then at this point, they plan to do his first chemo treatment either Wednesday or Thursday. After the treatment, they will have to stay at least another 24 hours for observation.

This means that they won't be home until Friday or Saturday - we will let you know when we have more information. It also means that people may not be able to visit them because the first week after a treatment, Ryan's immune system will be severely depressed. We will work out a meal schedule soon, but you may have to drop the meal off with one of us or at their front door. Please don't be offended at this - the oncologist told (Ryan's mom), "Just remember that a cold can kill him and you will be fine."

I know that all sounds ominous, but remember the news today was good!"

He is in my prayers. 2YOs can be "tough", so he may just play through any side effects. The doctors will probably be monitoring his white cell count and adjusting the timing of treatments so that, while depressed, his immune system probably won't be zero (unless that is necessary for the treatment).

Thanks Pete.

To be sure, I have zero knowledge about cancer treatment (praise God), and am hoping that I never have to learn.

I recieved the following information from Ronald McDonald House in Temple:

[ QUOTE ]
You are so kind. (Ryan's) family is in the prayers of many folks around here.

Donations may be sent or brought to the Ronald McDonald House 2415 South 47th Street, Temple, TX 76504. I've attached a current wish list.

Please let us know if there is something that we can do that we may have overlooked.

Hang in there Lobo. My sister just went through chemo and is doing very well. She works out all the time and can't wait to hit the gym again. The worst part for our family was waiting for the reports to come back.
You and your family will be in our prayers.

IC, thanks, but it's a co-worker. I appreciate the sentiment though.

Just to let everyone know what I've been doing this morning:

I got the following contributions from the restaurants listed below for Ryan's family; is it enough?

McAlister’s Deli-Soup and Sandwiches. Call ahead Fri or Sat and speak to a manager. Use my name, and then you need to pick it up.

Jason’s Deli-A Sandwich tray. I will call them with what the family wants, and Jason’s will deliver.

Fazoli’s-Coupon for free meal.

Papa John’s-Harvey Rd-Coupons for free Pizza(s)

Quizno’s-Texas Ave (near Lack’s)-Coupons for free Sandwiches

Wing’s and More (University)-A $25 gift card

Texas Roadhouse-Will call Jane tomorrow. Will probably get whatever we want from them.

Not a single person I called refused. Support the restaurants listed above.
