Brain science reveals what men are really thinking

LOS ANGELES, California (Reuters) --It's the universal question on many women's lips. "What could he be thinking?" she shrieks, or sighs or sulks at her husband, boyfriend or son.

What is it with men and cars? Why doesn't he notice how much housework needs to be done? Why does he need to keep a grip on the remote control? And the most bewildering one of all -- why won't he just talk to me?

The answers, says social philosopher and author Michael Gurian, lie not in laziness, sexism or sheer pigheadedness but in profound differences between the male and female brain -- and scientists now have the technology to prove it.

"What Could He Be Thinking? How a Man's Mind Really Works," combines two decades of neurobiological research with anecdotes from everyday life and Gurian's experience as a family therapist to present a new vision of the male psyche.

I've always believed the female brain is predominantly hard-wired for empathy, and that the male brain is predominantly hard-wired for understanding and building systems. It's called the empathizing-systemizing (E-S) theory.

You can usually see this right at the magazine rack where you see women picking out fashion, romance, beauty, intimacy, emotional problems, relationship advice, and parenting. Men are more likely to go to a magazine rack featuring computers, cars, boats, photography, sport, action, guns, tools, and the outdoors.

Most of what I see on the cover of female mags is "How to get the right man" , "100 ways to have great sex", and "Show him how to find you G-spot". Seriously, I think women are better at multitasking and men are better at concentrating on just one thing at a time.

I can cook dinner, help the kids with their homework AND listen to my husband at the same time. My husband is usually completely wrapped up in what he is doing at the time and it takes him awhile to switch gears. I don't know if it's just the way he is wired (engineer) or if all men are like that.

Statistics are extremly subjective. Especially in this case. "we are going to see how much you think about sex sir so just sit down and clear your mind" ok seriously you just put the idea out there and so thats what the person will be thinking about.
