Rink,

Does DirectTV carry Comedy Central?

The new episodes are shown Wednesdays at 10 PM and rerun Saturdays at 10 PM. Older episodes are shown Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday at 9:30 PM. NOTE: your satellite may carry only the EASTERN feed. If so, you will have to subtract 3 hours.

South Park Republicans are true Republicans, though they do not look or act like Pat Robertson. They believe in liberty, not conformity. They can enjoy watching The Sopranos even if they are New Jersey Italians. They can appreciate the tight abs of Britney Spears or Brad Pitt without worrying about the nation's decaying moral fiber. They strongly believe in liberty, personal responsibility, limited government, and free markets. However, they do not live by the edicts of political correctness.

Sweeeeeeet....

Cat, yeah that show was great! I also liked the NAMBLA one. The best part was at the end where the NAMBLA guy is trying to convince the town to be sympathetic to them, and Kyle says "We're down with tolerance and understanding and all that other stupid shit, but, dude, you want to have sex with little boys!"

Thanks for the links ES.

South Park is more Libertarian in nature. A lot of times though you can just fit your own political nature into an episode and be satisfied.

Good find, EveningStar.

[ QUOTE ]
However, it is unmistakable that "South Park" is not only a ridiculously inane show about four eight year olds in Colorado, but also a show of biting social commentary that mocks the Left, and gives credence to libertarianism/conservatism in a very PJ O'Rourkian fashion.

[/ QUOTE ]

South Park rocks! I don't agree with every idea it presents. I'm a socially conservative libertarian . . . and a Christian, but then that's what liberty is all about. We don't have to all agree if we don't want to. The left is clueless. "Can't we just all get along?" No!

The show's writers rip the left a new one.

Besides that, it hilarious! A roit! Its humor is fresh and funky . . . and unafraid. Martha Stewart . . . reverse digestion! /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/rotflmbo.gif /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/rotflmbo.gif /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/rotflmbo.gif /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/rotflmbo.gif

I think the best episode was Cat Orgy, especially at the end when Cartman and Shelly go to destroy Skyler's guitar, then get back to see hundreds of cats in Cartman's house doing lines of Cat Nip, and listening to music while they are all going a million miles an hour.

That and the MechaStreisand episode, that was freaking hilarious.

I agree with you here. I definately agree that there's a conservative bent to a lot of South Park, especially attacking bleeding-heart liberalism.
But its attacks aren't limited to liberalism, but to lots of things. Orthodox religion and drug laws also get attacked. It seems pretty libertarian to me.

But beyond all that, the show's just plain funny /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/cool.gif The marijuana episode is one of my favorites, and another recent one where they made fun of Gothics...good times...

If any of you people without cable or dishes, and are interested in watching the episodes on your computer, you can use a powerfull new technology called "torrents". It's basically a new method of filesharing.

Step 1- go to http://www.torrentstorm.com and download the latest version of the software.

Step 2- go to http://mrtwig.net/ and click on the link of the episode you want to download. It will prompt you to pick a program to open it with, and select torrentstorm. After that, it should download fairly quickly, and you can watch your favorite episodes.

I wouldn't label South Park anything like liberal or conservative. It makes fun of everything, and does it brilliantly. Like how George W said that Saddam was hiding WMD's in heaven, how could anyone not laught at that. The episode about the American Indians forcing the South Park residents out of town, and giving them blankets with SARS on them. The level of irony is amazing, and how they do it is even better. I think it is challenging the Simpsons as best cartoon for today.

I finally saw the first one ("Cartman Gets an Anal Probe") I fell off my couch with laughter when he said "Why does today have to do with things either going in or coming out of my ass?" Cartman's insistence to Mr. Garrison that he's OK while farting fire is classic.....

Interesting is that Trey Parker and Matt Stone (the creators of south park) are right leaning. I think Trey is a libertarian, and Matt is a Republican. Intersting enough though, Matt Stone said that (paraphrase):I am a conservative, and I like their Ideals, but I hate actual conservatives.

You can see a small conservative slant in their shows, but they make fun of boths sides hilariously.

ChatterBug
05-12-2004, 01:48 PM
I would'nt say that they are conservative nor would i say that they are liberal.

In one of the episodes mentioned, about Saddam building WMDs in heaven, they show Bush going to the UN and explaining his plan to invade heaven. After someone stands up and says "Um, Mr.President, are you incredibly stupid, or just high?" to which Bush replies, "Oh I assure you, I am not high."

Not only this but they also created the show Thats My Bush which mocks the president.

Also, they mock the passion, and in one of the episodes, they go so far as to crucify Cartman (When Kyle's dad can't get an erection).

However they also make fun of the left and tree hugging hippies like in Rainforest Excursion, and of course Nambla. So I would'nt really classify them as being left nor would i classify them as being right.

Also, my favorite episode is the first form the new season, when they all buy weapons from the far east, and the entire episode is in anime. The scene where butters gets the ninja star in his eye is one of the best scenes in the entire history of the show. (IMO)

I liked the first episode in in season 5 (i think) with cartman trying to get revenge on scott tenorman. The twist at the end was so hillarious especially because it isn't expected. Don't see things like that on tv for a year at a time.

Not a fan, sorry.

I find this show disgusting -- would never personally have it on my television, but to each his own. That's the great thing about freedom!

The thing that does bother me, though, is that Comedy Central is offered free as part of my local basic cable package. Most of the television shows on CC are vulgar, and definitely NOT for children -- yet those particular (off-color & inappropriate) shows are on all times of the day (when children could be watching--like latch-key kids home from school in the afternoons). I think it is high-time that viewers be allowed to pick the particular channels they want as part of their basic cable packages.

Sorry for the rant -- please resume your South Park love fest without further interruption (from me :D), LOL.

I agree with you. I have never seen the point in that show. I think it was even made by some people from Michigan who worship Michael Moore.
Kate likes Cartman. She has a T-shirt of him. She several times explained to me that it's just fun and certainly not for kids anyways. I still think it's vulgar though.
