Nancy Reagan Talks About Husband (http://www.newsday.com/ap/text/national/ap677.htm)
LOS ANGELES (AP) -- Nancy Reagan says former President Reagan remains "a dear, sweet, wonderful man" even as he lives with debilitating Alzheimer's Disease.
"There's so many, many people who are doing exactly the same thing as I'm doing," Mrs. Reagan said on ABC's "PrimeTime Thursday," as she paged through the book "Ronald Reagan: An American Hero."
"I have some advantages that they don't have," the former first lady said of caring for her 90-year-old husband. "I mean, I have the Secret Service ... emotionally we're in the same spot, all of us, but there are a lot of people out there who are going through this."
Mrs. Reagan also wished the best for President George W. Bush's teen-age twin daughters, recently in the news after being charged with underage drinking.
"I feel sorry for the girls. I feel sorry for the Bushes. I think they should just leave them alone and let them solve their own problems," she said.

I have a great story about Nancy Reagan. Years before Ron ran for Governor he and Nancy were out working for George Murphy for Senator from California. This must have been 1965 or so. We had lost the Goldwater election and we were all totally depressed.
The Young Republicans put on a fund raiser for our potential new senator and we rented a large auditorium in Woodland Hills for the group.
I checked out the bathrooms to be sure they all had fresh paper towels and potty paper and I realized the bathrooms were rather dirty.
I found a supply room and grabbed several rolls of paper towels and ajax. I started in and was soon joined by a beautiful lady in a red silk dress. Yep! it was Nancy and she took the mirrors while I took the sinks.
She would soon be First Lady of California and then first lady of America. She was never above getting her hands dirty and we adored her!
The next fundraiser was at Duke Wayne's house where she was at the head table and wore the same red silk dress. No snob here!
That fundraiser at Wayne's house was amazing. Most of the Hollywood stars, producers, directors and cameramen were all Republicans. Can you believe it? Although we didn't elect Goldwater, George Murphy won his race. He started making noise on gun control and we booted him out! Win some, lose some...
Today the Hollywood crowd are a bunch of stoned out liberals and the parties are duds.
The GOP group in those days were fabulous personalities and I remember hearing Nancy laugh nearly out of control when Wayne and Ward Bond got into a mock battle over some silly argument. Walter Brennan entertained us all with his descriptions of the political parties during his lifetime.
Libs can't laugh like this.
When the Duke sold his house and moved to Newport Beach the entire neighborhood seemed to freeze. Our home faced his stables and the sound of his parties were glorious but noisy. We adored him!! I have some really funny stories about being his neighbors but won't tell them here.
Ron Reagan was a guest at the house but was quite shy and never roared with laughter as the rest did. I felt even then he was a tad hard of hearing. He was a lovely sweet man and I mourn for his present condition.
My days in Hollywood only touched this group politically except for my years in boarding school where all the Hollywood girls attended. Great fun! Even I had a few walk-ons when they need a young girl who could take stage direction.

Sandy you are a treasure. You should write a book about your experiences. I look forward to hearing more. Perhaps something a little colorful in the Brandy & Cigar Club?

Bill Holden couldn't find a ballot booth if he tried. The man was totally stoned and in a drunken stupor for 30 years. Sinatra was a Joisy Democrat whose mother did all the abortions when they were illegal. Neither man contributed anything to the American political world.
Barbara Sinatra is a different set of rules. She has dedicated her life (and Frank's money) for the welfare of many abused (sexually and physically) children. Way back in the 70s she was involved in the International Orphans group who brought hundreds of Vietnam orphans to America.
This group of ladies were the top of the line actresses including Greer Garson and Irene Dunne. They raised several million dollars to bring the homeless babies to America and just from their names, placed every single one of them in good homes.
There is a wonderful story about our gentleladies of Hollywood. I will tell it later if you want. The best thing about them is they can laugh at themselves.
Hollywood has a terrible reputation but these women were a different kind of Hollywood.
Anyway, when the babies were all taken care of these same Hollywood gals built a huge facility for children who were taken out of their own homes after being raped, beaten and abused, many beyond repair. They called it "Children's Village" and they still maintain it. Both Garson and Dunne are dead by Barbara Sinatra took over the fund raising and she has been a solid gold jewel. She has never asked for notoriety for her work and is one of the truly good people on this earth. I have no idea how she votes, but I don't care!
There are many good Hollywood people out there but they would rather work without the media's attention.
My dad was a money manager for Roach Studios and my mother was a studio musician. I was raised in many of the studios in the 40s and partied with them all. I wouldn't touch a Hollywood party today!
I will tell you there was nobody like "The Duke" I have seem him tear up a bar with one hand and then call someone to come and get him after leaving a blank check for his damages. Everyone in our neighborhood knew and loved him. He was wild and so was his wife. I have seen people drive into someone elses driveway to get away from the dreaded Pilar when she was racing down our street.

I am a huge John Wayne fan. I think I've seen all of his movies, many of them multiple times. Whatever happened to his sons that used to act with him?

Michael and Patrick are still involved in the industry but are getting a little old (can you imagine that?) for the kind of roles they wanted. They are both involved in politics and are married and family folk.
I haven't been involved in the Hollywood scene since I moved to the Central Coast of California (1982)and lost touch with the old group.
My son is still very involved and has his own special effects business.
You may have seen some of his work.

He doesn't socialize with the people of Hollywood as he is a very married man and a wonderful and faithful father.
Doesn't that sound like a proud step-mother?
I have had him in my family since he was about 15 years old.

Lyta. I knew Maureen very well. She had an inport business and rented a couple of offices from us. This was during the time her dad was president. She had the best looking body guards I ever met. She chose them herself. She was not married at the time and she would pick up her mail around 10 am everyday. She was a kick! She laughed all the time. The morning her dad was shot she came in threw me the keys to her office and took off.
I kept her mail, and took are of the office until she came back. She had the place closed up and she moved back to WDC.
What was fun, was that when I was in highschool the whole class attended a production of The Nutcracker Suite and Maureen was the lead dancer.
I often reminded her of how sell she danced when she was about 12 years old. She has put on a few pounds in the last 20 years and of course so have I.
I went to her wedding and met her mother. BTW she married one of those gorgeous body guards! I won't say too much about her Mother, but she couldn't touch Nancy for personality and manners.
Poor Maureen is now fighting brain cancer and I am truly sorry for her. She is in a hospital in Carmichael California and I guess in pretty bad shape. Gosh she is much younger than I am and it scares me.
For a while Maureen was thinking of running for the Senate race in California. She would have been wonderful. Bright, conservative and totally unaffected. She may look like her mother but she is Ron through and through.
