View Full Version : Anybody catch Dennis Miller show yet?

It's pretty darn good, and after 2 shows it's already CNBC's top rated program.

from Drudge:
CABLE NEWS WARS
MON, JAN 26, 2004

FOXNEWS OREILLY [RATING] 2.1
FOXNEWS HANNITY/COLMES 1.6
CNN LARRY KING 1.3
FOXNEWS GRETA 1.0
FOXNEWS BRIT HUME 1.1
FOX NEWS SHEP SMITH 1.0
CNN PAULA ZAHN 0.8
CNN AARON BROWN 0.7
CNBC DENNIS MILLER 0.6
MSNBC HARDBALL 0.4
MSNBC NORVILLE 0.3
MSNBC SCARBOROUGH 0.3
MSNBC OLBERMANN 0.3

Not bad...I wish it was on at 8pm opposite O'Reilly rather than Hannity. The "Varsity Roundtable" is like a civilized, classy version of Bill Maher's show. Not a bunch of shouting...and his interviews are the same way. He lets his guests finish their thoughts. Good stuff...give it a try!

Caught the last 5 or 10 minutes...he seems to have a good presence and format. Time will tell as to how successful he is.

They definitely need to move the time slot, but I caught it last night.

He was witty, urbane, yet informative. Like the old newscasts he used to do on SNL, except that now all the stories are true. Good interviewing technique, too.

I had to watch it when I saw the promo: He said "You better watch, or I'll go back to doing football!"

I didn't even know he was on. Is he on every night?

Blowback

He's on every night for one hour starting at 9:00 ET, with a replay at Midnight ET. He's also on Sundays at the same times.

I have seen the first two episodes, and, while I like the show, I think it needs more energy. First, I would add a live audience, as Miller interacts well with a live crowd. Second, I wish the show were on a premium channel rather than CNBC. CNBC just seems so...."un-hip". Plus, Dennis is somewhat defanged since he can't employ his trademark "colorful" language, a luxury that a premium channel would allow. I know Dennis has "changed" and that the format of this show is not supposed to be exclusively comedic, but I can't help but wish Dennis' talents were put to better use. Every time I look at Bill Maher's show on HBO, I wish Dennis were there in his place. "Dennis Miller Live" was one of the funniest, edgiest comedy shows on television.

On the plus side, though, I get my "Miller fix" five nights a week now.

I'm going to start watching. I thought he was still working at Fox.

I liked his interview with Arnold on the debut show, had a good line about the CA/Mexico border (paraphrasing here) that you could go down to the border and midnight with a pair of night vision goggles and it's like the Boston Marathon with ponchos.

I agree with you on this. Without the live audience, his monologue comes off as a little awkward or maybe I just hear it awkward as I am used to his monologue with a live audience. That said, I hope to see his show succeed. It would be nice if it were in a different time slot, however.

HALT RIGHT THERE!!!

Alright buddy, wiseass patrol here....and you have been snagged!

cease and desist any and all attempts at sattire, ironic humor or just plain wise apple comments. Refusal to meet these requirements will result in fifteen days confinement in a padded cell as you are read to from the complete selection of "The wit and wisdom of Al Franken".
(as these are small books, some repetition will be required)

you have been warned, that is all. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/solder.gif

Miller is brilliant. He and Robin Williams have the fastest minds in comedy. I too am a huge fan. I haven't seen his new show yet. That's the first I've heard about it for cyring out loud! I'll be catching it tomorrow.

Welcome to Freeconservatives, Blowback. Nice review.

I wonder what kind of a time slot that a Nos/Wyatt/Doom show would get? Laf.

Depends who hosts. If it's Wyatt, you'll be censored of the air. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/biggrin.gif

No, no, take that back. Definitely a successful spot on cable!

Well, it should be a good one.

You guys, collectively, are better looking than Paula Zahn, smarter than Wolf Blitzer, and funnier than Larry King.

Did I say "better looking than Paula Zahn?" Make that "Judy Woodruff."

I didn't have a clue that he had a new show---sounds hilarious. I thought he was funny in the beginning of his football stint, but That seemed to peter out so I quit watching.

I'm sorry, but after hearing some of his mouth frothing tirades with lie after lie about the NRA, it's gonna take a helluva lot to convince me that anything he says is the truth. He may speak the truth when it suits him, but he certainly isn't irrevocably tied to it. O'Reilly is the same way about global warming.

I watched it last night and that bitch from the left pissed me off. She asked David Horowitz to not interrupt her three times and he had not said one word. Then when he was talking she interrupted him every other word. Lordy what a rude bitch.

Some of the best lines I've heard from Dennis on the program so far this week (not verbatim, so excuse any errors):

-- "Howard Dean said this week that the people of Iraq were better off when Saddam Hussein was in power. He then took a big swig from a bottle of loser juice and began to cry."

-- "All the Democratic candidates' significant others were present at the primary tonight: Kerry's wife, Dean's wife, Kucinich's right hand....."

-- "One thing I can promise you about this show: NO ED ASNER."

There are others, but those are the ones I remember the best. There was also one about Dean snorting fire from his nostrils.....anyone remember it and the context?

I agree; he could use a live audience but I also think, although it may sound cheesy, that he could use some sort of "sidekick." Until he brings out guests (ones that arent appearing via satellite), he just looks so alone up there.

Warlady
01-29-2004, 07:57 PM
I think a live audience would slow things down too much. He wouldn't get a word in edgewise with all of the laughing. I laughed my ass off tonight. Is that stupid bitch Naomi Wolf on every night?

Blowback, thanks for the info about the replay @ midnight. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/icon16.gif I had given up on being able to watch Dennis Miller because there was no way I could skip Hannity at 9. So, it's nice to know I can now watch Miller at midnight. 'Preciate it!

Naomi Wolf is one stupid, stupid, dumb ass bitch with a bunch of ****ed-up sauce poured generously over her head and running down her fat pimply thighs and into her webbed feet. She hasn't a humorous bone in her entire anatomy. She's so stiff that if she ever laughed, it'd break her diaphragm from lack of use. Like all libs, they're always trying to tell us how to behave like some pent-up, sexually-frustrated librarian holding up a bent finger and going shhhhhhh. And like you too, lefty, you self-righteous, do-goodin' prick. Isn't there a random act of kindness that needs doing like that crappy bumper sticker on the back of Volkswagons, just waiting for you somewhere? Like that shitty movie; Pay It Forward. Don't you need to go hug somebody right now? Now, go think happy thoughts you dip, otherwise that moron gauze might start unraveling around yer head and yer brains might start leaking like a runny toilet.

After watching the show today, I actually like Naomi Wolf. Not only is she smart but she's kinda sexy to me. I don't know why, and I'm not usually attracted to fatties...maybe its just her liberalism that turns me on.

Anyhow, the show isn't that bad--when Miller tries to stay a little balanced. If he's going on tired tirades against liberals and Democrats, I just wanna slap that unfunny twit.

I saw a bit of the show last night...it was soooooo refreshing to see Gloria Alred getting her fat ass handed to herself on a platter by John Rhys-Davies and the dude that does the "The Left Coast Report" for NewsMax. They were talking about muslims infiltrating Europe...when she accused Rhys-Davies of disparaging an entire culture, he replied, "exactly HOW have I done that?"...and continued to put forth his viewpoint of the matter.

The look on her face was worth a million words. LOL
