Feminist-Leaning Military Panel Targeted
By Bob Kellogg, correspondent
As America steps up its War on Terrorism, what role will women play in our armed forces?
Concerned Women for America and the Center for Military Readiness are urging the Bush administration to do away with a military advisory committee that has some radical ideas on that subject.
Army Lt. Col. James Casalla explained the function of the little-known Defense Advisory Committee on Women in the Services — more commonly known as DACOWITS.
"Members from DACOWITS volunteer their time to meet with service members around the world at various times to hear what their concerns might be and then to make recommendations and provide advice," Casalla said.
Wendy Wright, spokeswoman for Concerned Women for America, said DACOWITS has unlimited access to military policy makers and has a feminist agenda.
"The military has one purpose — to win wars," Wright said. "Gender politics has no place when we are dealing with something as serious as war."
