Hillary Watch from Human Events
The Week of July 2, 2001
Single Sex in the City. Sen. Hillary Clinton has been extolling the virtues of single-sex education, and has even gone so far as to endorse funding such schools. "There have to be guidelines. This cannot be a blank check to go back to segregation of any sort. We encourage people to open schools for both boys and girls, if they think that would meet a need in their community." Mrs. Clinton has been particularly impressed with the Young Women’s Leadership School in New York City, a school from which all 32 graduates have been accepted to four-year universities, which is double the current rate of college enrollment for New York City students. Amazingly, Sen. Clinton is being opposed by three New York Civil Rights groups and the New York Chapter of the National Organization of Women, who believe that that public money should not be used to fund single-sex education.
A Gay Old Time. Sen. Clinton marched in New York City’s 32nd annual homosexual pride parade. The parade began with a "wedding" ceremony between homosexuals, and included lesbians on motorcycles, men in loincloths with high-heeled shoes, pearls, feathered headdresses and elbow-length gloves, and other outrageous demonstrations. Earlier in the week, Sen. Clinton came out against the "Boy Scouts Equal Access Act," a bill that protects the right of the Boy Scouts to determine their own membership and leadership policies without being discriminated against by schools and other state actors.
Hillary ‘Jesse Helms’ Clinton? Many of Hillary’s Hollywood pals, including William Baldwin, Lauren Bacall, Robin Williams and Chevy Chase are complaining that she’s become a right-winger who is trying to censor them. The pretentious and overrated actors claim that it’s "unacceptable and dangerous" for Sen. Clinton and Sen. Joe Lieberman (D.-Conn.) to sponsor a bill to crack down on movie sex and violence. "I think that it is our obligation to at least go after. . . Sen. Clinton with as much verve as we would Sen. [Jesse] Helms," Mr. Baldwin told MSNBC. In the 2000 election, Hollywood backed Hillary’s senatorial campaign, donating nearly $600,000, according to the Center for Responsive Politics, and lending their star power to promote her candidacy at various campaign stops. For her part, Sen. Clinton says that she "respectfully disagrees" with her donors and supporters.
