The 'rats already tried to pin the 'carpetbagger' rap on her. Polls showed it didn't fly. North Carolinians consider her enough of a home girl with no problem. I expect when the campaign season starts the rats will hit that theme again, but it may bring a backlash of support.

Elizabeth Dole doesn't know how to campaign, and the conservative base isn't behind her with much enthusiasm. Jesse hasn't spoken up for her, either, which is a vital factor in getting the base out for her. Her candidacy is based on the theory that NC is trending 'rat, which is true, and that as a moderate she can win.

I doubt it. Edwards is going to torpedo her. He's got the trial lawyers plus a ton of other special interest groups behind him, and all the 'rats have to do is put forward a half-way decent candidate and they'll win.

This is a big mistake. 'pubs screwed up again. As I see it, her fortunes turn on how well Dubya handles all that's before him. If he maintains the support of the people, and North Carolinians view the Senate as non-supportive and disruptive to his efforts, they may vote 'pub just to help fill Dubya's hand in the Senate, but it won't be because she's such a great candidate.

Liddy hails from down in the Eastern part of the state, I misremember the exact area. Only problem being, she's spent so many years in Kansas with No Woody Bob that many of us don't know her, or want to.
She's no friend of gun owners, and waaaaaaay to wishy washy on abortion for a lil ol redneck like yours truly to ever get behind her.

Another problem with my beloved state is that there are too damn many 'rats flooding in here and gettin all weak at the knees over the likes of Edwards and such. Now that Jesse is stepping down, we are truly screwed.

So don't look to good ol NC for any help anytime soon. We're heading back to the dark ages mite fast.


On a personal note, I've been after Edwards office to inform me when his two daughters are going to start interning for Ted. One's about 20 I think and the other around 16. I even sent him a box of kneepads just so they could start out well equipped.

The only thing that worries me is that I have two beautiful little girls myself.

It was great when I was the one chasing after the skirts in my (earlier) youth. Now, I'm the grumpy old man on the porch with shotgun in hand saying, "You are gonna behave with my lil girl, ain'tcha boy?"
