Carlin, counterculture comedians' dean, dies at 71

LOS ANGELES (AP) - George Carlin, the dean of counterculture comedians whose biting insights on life and language were immortalized in his "Seven Words You Can Never Say On TV" routine, died of heart failure Sunday. He was 71.

Carlin, who had a history of heart trouble, went into St. John's Health Center in Santa Monica on Sunday afternoon complaining of chest pain and died later that evening, said his publicist, Jeff Abraham. He had performed as recently as last weekend at the Orleans Casino and Hotel in Las Vegas.
In the beginning of a change, the patriot is a scarce man, and brave, and hated and scorned.
When his cause succeeds, the timid join him, for then it costs nothing to be a patriot.

    ~Mark Twain, Notebook, 1935

While I don't feel schadenfreude at his passing, I can't feel much pain or grief, either.

I can remember my dad, who died in 1968, literally rolling on the floor when Carlin did the Hippy Dippy Weatherman routine. 'Course, I was rolling there on the floor with him!

But this clip doesn't have the truly final forecast. (Not a direct quote) With "...the thunderstorms occurring from a point along a line starting at (whatever) miles SSE of Secaucus, NJ, and extending to a point 20 miles NNW of (somewhere), but don't sweat the thunderstorms, because the radar also shows a fleet of Russian ICBMs coming in....."

    Rest in peace, George.
Arguing with a liberal village idiot is pointless. Light and fact can neither escape nor enter the black hole of liberalism.

My main concern was not in holding it against him or trying bash him, it was just that it's too late for him to change it now.

Ditto this. Where once upon a time he would have you cracking up, it just became the kind of humor only an idiot far left hate mongerer would enjoy.

Hard for me to feel any grief -- hell, I take actual satisfaction in it -- when a hate-America shiite-eater croaks.

I never found him less than hilarious. Even when he (frequently) went over the line of good taste, he was hard-hitting, thought-provoking, had impeccable timing and wasn't afraid to court controversy. One of the greats of stand-up comedy.

I happened to be in front of the TV once when he was cracking a joke on some HBO special. What he said was so despicable I wouldn't repeat it to anyone, and certainly not here.

    I'm not gonna miss him.

I have a lot of respect for him, but like others I preferred his earlier work, especially his takes on the use of language. He's an example of how even a leftist can be against PC language.

I found however that his political and religious humor became increasingly bitter and hateful, and with each new release I found him more difficult to listen to.

At his peak, however, he was almost beyond compare.

    Now, he's beyond repair.

Yep...he used to be one of my favorite comedians...but, for the past 20 years or so, he's done nothing but disgust me.

I'm saddened in his passing without coming to Christ...but, I'll not shed a tear because a bitter man who hated the country that afforded him his freedom can no longer denigrate her.
