Trans-Fat Ban in NYC
http://news.aol.com/health/story/ar/...042x1200215219
Quote:
NEW YORK (June 29) - Making cannoli is serious business in New York. It's a dessert so tempting that even a hit man in the "Godfather" couldn't leave a box behind.
But even the most respected chefs of this and other pastries are being ordered to make changes by Tuesday - the day New York's trans fat ban takes full effect.
New York is the first American city to adopt such a stringent rule.
Starting this week, the ban extends to almost all prepared food in restaurants, bakeries, cafeterias, salad bars and food carts. There will be a three-month grace period before big fines are slapped on violators. The artery-clogging substance was first banned from cooking oils last year.
|
Now I am ok with this single ban. My fear is how far are they going to take this. Is salt next? Cuz I cant live without that. What about sugar?
How about how many meals I can eat. I worry about the government getting too comfortable with telling people exactly how to live. Up until now we had almost exclusive control over what we put in our mouths. I wonder if the government took a step that will lead into a mile jog.

I'm not for this at all. No foods should be banned. It's someone's own fault if they eat tons of trans fats, no one forces them too. You can't blame the people who make the food for those who eat it getting unhealthy. Silly really, you don't see ciggarettes being banned because they can cause cancer, so why is it they want to ban trans-fats because they make people fat. Whats next? Ban salt because of high blood pressure? Ban Alcohol because it can cause liver failure?(lol prohibition)

Can you bring your own transfats in from the outside and eat them there with the people who don't want to be around them?

I'll sue if you do! I'm allergic to transfats! Transfats are against the law! Second-hand transfats are more dangerous than first-hand ones! Keep YOUR transfats away from MY blah blah blah!

"You see, according to Cocteau's plan I'm the enemy, 'cause I like to think; I like to read. I'm into freedom of speech and freedom of choice. I'm the kind of guy likes to sit in a greasy spoon and wonder - "Gee, should I have the T-bone steak or the jumbo rack of barbecued ribs with the side order of gravy fries?" I WANT high cholesterol. I wanna eat bacon and butter and BUCKETS of cheese, okay? I want to smoke a Cuban cigar the size of Cincinnati in the non-smoking section. I want to run through the streets naked with green Jell-o all over my body reading Playboy magazine. Why? Because I suddenly might feel the need to, okay, pal? I've SEEN the future. Do you know what it is? It's a 47-year-old virgin sitting around in his beige pajamas, drinking a banana-broccoli shake, singing "I'm an Oscar Meyer Wiener". --Edgar Friendly, in DEMOLITION MAN

What will Jerrold Nadler eat? He represents a large part of New York City. Hell, he is a large part of New York City.

Prez, the moment you are ok with a ban (even if only one), you immediately give Nanny Government permission to live your life for you.
But you already knew that.
By the way, does this law apply to French restaurants (or imitations thereof)? Remeber that newyorkers are incorrigible Europephiles, especially when it comes to France and England.
Anway, kiss good food good-bye.

Everyone should chip in and open a resturaunt called Crisco's in the center of Times Square where we serve nothing but deep fried meats covered in melted butter, gravy, and liquid melted animal fat.

Yeah I know.
But on the subject of how things taste.... most places stopped using the trans-fats on their own, and the taste has not changed not one bit.
