Bush's terriers "Barney" and "Miss Beazley," pets are a longtime presidential tradition for which John McCain seems well prepared, with more than a dozen of his own. According to an AP-Yahoo! News poll, voters with pets favor McCain over the currently pet-less Barack Obama 42 percent to 37 percent.

Doc, those dogs are gorgeous. It's obvious that they're wonderfully cared for. You can see the richness of their coats and the alertness of their eyes. That means more than just feeding and petting; it means working with them like one would work with a kid.

I used to have a little Pekinese dog (although I usually prefer big dogs), way back when. Then it died of a cruel disease and it broke my heart. He was so cute, and so intelligent.
My favorite dog is the German Shepherd. But my house is too small for the three of us.
