Re: Favorite Song Lyrics

Song: Virtuality
Group: Rush
Album: Test for Echo

Like a shipwrecked mariner adrift on an unknown sea
Clinging to the wreckage of the lost ship Fantasy
I'm a castaway, stranded in a desolate land
I can see the footprints in the virtual sand

Net boy, net girl
Send your signal 'round the world
Let your fingers walk and talk
And set you free

Net boy, net girl
Send your impulse 'round the world
Put your message in a modem
And throw it in the Cyber Sea

Astronauts in the weightlessness of pixellated space
Exchange graffiti with a disembodied race
I can save the universe in a grain of sand
I can hold the future in my virtual hand

Let's dance tonight
To a virtual song
Press this key
And you can play along

Let's fly tonight
On our virtual wings
Press this key
To see amazing things

Like a pair of vagabonds who wave between two passing trains
Or the glimpse of a woman's smile through a window in the rain
I can smell her perfume, I can taste her lips
I can feel the voltage from her fingertips

Net boy, net girl
Send your heartbeat round the world

TSawyer ~

A fellow Rush fan.
One of my favorites..

"Countdown" -- Rush

Lit up with anticipation,
We arrive at the launching site.
The sky is still dark, nearing dawn
On the Florida coastline.

Circling choppers slash the night
With roving searchlight beams.
This magic day when super science
Mingles with the bright stuff of dreams.

Floodlit in the hazy distance..
The star of this unearthly show.
Venting vapors, like the breath
Of a sleeping white dragon.

Crackling speakers, voices tense,
Resume the final count.
"All systems check, T Minus Nine.."
As the sun and the drama start to mount.

The air is charged ~
A humid, motionless mass.
The crowds and the cameras,
The cars full of spectators pass.

Excitement so thick
You could cut it with a knife.
Technology... High,
On the leading edge of life.

The earth beneath us starts to tremble
With the spreading of a low, black cloud.
A thunderous roar shakes the air
Like the whole world exploding~!

Scorching blast of golden fire
As it slowly leaves the ground..
Tears away with a mighty force
The air is shattered by the awesome sound!

Like a pillar of cloud
The smoke lingers high in the air.
In fascination,
With the eyes of the world

We stare..

"There are people who make things happen, there are people who watch things happen, and there are people who wonder what happened. To be successful, you need to be a person who makes things happen.." -- James A. Lovell, Commander of Apollo 13

Re: Favorite Song Lyrics

Wait for Me

from Transform
by Rebecca St. James

Darling did you know that I
I dream about you
Waiting for the look in your eyes
When we meet for the first time
Darling did you know that I
I pray about you
Praying that you will hold on
Keep your loving eyes only for me

I am waiting for
Praying for you, darling
Wait for me, too
Wait for me as I wait for you
I am waiting for
Praying for you, darling
Wait for me too
Wait for me, as I wait for you
Darling, wait

Darling did you know I dream about life together
Knowing it will be forever
I'll be yours and you'll be mine
And darling when I say
'Til death do us part
I'll mean it with all of my heart
Now and always, faithful to you

repeat chorus

Now I know you may have made mistakes
But there's forgiveness and a second chance
So wait for me darling
Wait for me
Wait for me

This is my daughter's favorite song (yeah, she's 14, LOL)

Re: Favorite Song Lyrics

"Roy Rogers" by Elton John and Bernie Taupin

Sometimes you dream.
Sometimes it seems
there's nothing there at all.
You just seem older than yesterday
and you're waitin' for tomorrow to call.

You draw to the curtains
and one thing's for certain:
You're cozy in your little room.
The carpet's all paid for,
God bless the T.V.
Let's a-go shoot a hole in the moon..

Oh and Roy Rogers is a-ridin' tonight,
returning to our silver screens.
Comic book characters never grow old.
Evergreen heroes whose stories were told,
Oh the great sequined cowboy
who singed of the plains
of roundups, and rustlers,
and Home on the Range.
Turn on the T.V.
Shut out the lights.
Roy Rogers is ridin' tonight.

Nine o'clock mornings,
Five o' clock evenings,
I'd liven the pace if I could.
Oh I'd rather have a ham in my sandwich than cheese
but complainin' wouldn't do any good.

Lay back in my armchair.
Close eyes and think clear.
I can hear hoofbeats ahead.
Roy and Trigger have just hit the hilltop
while the wife and the kids are in bed..

Oh and Roy Rogers is a-ridin' tonight,
returning to our silver screens.
Comic book characters never grow old.
Evergreen heroes whose stories were told,
Oh the great sequined cowboy
who singed of the plains
of roundups and rustlers
and Home on the Range.
Turn on the T.V.
Shut out the lights.
Roy Rogers is ridin' tonight.

Re: Favorite Song Lyrics

Those Were The Days (Baker/Taylor) [from Cream's Wheels Of Fire]

When the city of Atlantis stood serene above the sea
Long time before our time, when the world was free
Those were the days

Golden cymbals flying on ocarina sounds
Before wild Medusa's serpents gave birth to hell
Disguised as heaven

Those were the days, yes they were
Those were the days
Those were their ways, miracles everywhere, where are the now?
They're gone
Those were their ways, yes they were, those were their ways
Those were the days, yes they were, those were the days

Tie your favorite shoes and dance, blue daylight in your hair,
Overhead a noiseless eagle fans a flame, flying
Wonder everywhere
--------------------------

Pachuco Cadaver (Don Van Vliet)
[from Captain Beefheart and the Magic Band's Trout Mask Replica]

When she wears her bolero, then she begin t' dance
All the pachucos start withold'n hands
When she drives her Chevy, sissies don't dare t' glance
Yellow jackets 'n red debbles buzzin' round 'er hair hive hole
She wears her past like a present, takes her fancy in the pants
Her sedan skims along the floorboard
Her two pipes hummin' carbon cum
Got her wheel out of uh B-29 bomber, brodey knob amber
Spanish fringe 'n talcum tazzles FOREVER AMBER
She looks like an old squaw indian
She 99, she won't go down
Avocado green 'n alfalfa yellow adorn her t' the ground
Tattoos 'n tarnished utenzles, uh snow white bag full o' tunes
Drives uh cartune around, Drives uh cartune around
Broma' seltzer blue umbrella keeps her up off the ground
Round red sombreros rap 'er high tap horsey shoes
When she unfolds her umbrella, pachucos got the blues
Her lovin' makes me so happy
If I smiled I'd crack my chin
Her eyes are so peaceful, thinks it's heaven she been
Her skin is smooth as the daisies
In the center where the sun shines in
Smiles as sweet as honey
Her teeth as clean as the combs where the bees go in
When she walks, flowers surround her
Let their nectar come into the air around her
She love, her love stick out like stars
Her lovin' stick out like stars

My favorite single line is from Paul McCartney's Rocky Raccoon:
"Her name was McGill and she called herself Lil,
But everyone knew her as Nancy"

"All I want to do is be more like me and be less like you."

That pretty much sums it up. I love that song ("Numb") because of that line. It is a good song but it happened at a good time in my life

Title:Up Against The Wall Redneck Mother

(ray wylie hubbard)

He was born in oklahoma
His wife's name is betty jo thelma liz.
He's not responsible for what he's doing;
His mother made him what he is.

And it's up against the wall redneck mother
Mother who has raised her son so well.
He's thirty-four and drinking in them honky-tonks
Just kicking all them hippies' asses raising hell.

Well, you know, he sure likes to drink that lone star beer
And he chases it down with that wild turkey bourbon liquor.
He got a ¡®57 gmc pick ¡®em up truck with a gun rack
And a ¡°i'd rather be a roper than a doper¡± bumper sticker.

And it's up against the wall redneck mother
Mother who has raised her son so well.
He's thirty-four and drinking in them honky-tonks
Just kicking all them hippies' asses raising hell.

M is for the mud flaps you gave me for my pick-up truck
O is for the oil i put in my pick-up truck, drain it out, and put grease on my hair,
T is for tolly parton,
H is for haggard
E is for el paso and
R is for redneck!

And it's up against the wall redneck mother
Mother who has raised her son so well.
He's thirty-four and drinking in them honky-tonks
Kicking all them hippies' asses raising hell.

And it's up against the wall redneck mother
Mother who has raised her son so well.
And he's thirty-four and drinking in them honky-tonks
Just kicking all them hippies' asses raising hell.

Title:Put Another Log On The Fire

(sheldon silverstein)

Put another log on the fire,
Cook me up some bacon and some beans,
Go out to the car and change the tire,
Wash my socks and sew my old blue jeans.
Baby, fill my pipe and then go fetch my slippers,
Boil me up another pot of tea.
Put another log on the fire, girl,
Come and tell me why you're leaving me.

Don't i let you wash the car on sunday ?
Don't i warn you when you're getting fat ?
Hey, fatso!
Ain't i gonna take you fishing some day ?
Well, a man can't love a woman more than that.

Ain't i always nice to your kid sister,

Don't i take her driving every night ?
So sit here at my feet because i like you when you're sweet
And you know that it ain't feminine to fight.

Put another log on the fire,
Cook me up some bacon and some beans,
Go out to the car and change the tire,
Wash my socks and sew my old blue jeans.

Fill my pipe and then go fetch my slippers,
Boil me up another pot of tea.
Put another log on the fire, woman,
Come and tell me why you're leaving me.
Yeah, come and tell me why you're leaving me.

The Barney Song, usually while rubbing the sleet outta my eyes.

Apparently we're using it at Gitmo during interrogations...

"The Trees" -- Rush

There is unrest in the forest,
There is trouble with the trees,
For the maples want more sunlight
And the oaks ignore their pleas.

The trouble with the maples,
(and they're quite convinced they are right)
They say the oaks are just too lofty
And they grab up all the light.

But the oaks can't help their feelings
If they like the way they're made.
And they wonder why the maples
Can't be happy in their shade?

There is trouble in the forest,
And the creatures all have fled,
As the maples scream, "Oppression!!"
And the oaks just shake their heads.

So the maples formed a union
And demanded equal rights.
"The oaks are just too greedy;
We will make them give us light!"

Now there's no more oak oppression,
For they passed a noble law..
And the trees are all kept equal
By Hatchet, Axe, and Saw.

"Cadillac Ranch" -- Bruce Springsteen

Well there she sits buddy, just a-gleamin' in the sun
There to greet a workin' man, when his day is done
I'm gonna pack my pa and I'm gonna pack my aunt
I'm gonna take them down to the Cadillac Ranch

Eldorado fins, whitewalls, and skirts
Rides just like a little bit of heaven here on Earth
Well buddy when I die, throw my body in the back
And drive me to the junkyard in my Cadillac

Cadillac, Cadillac,
Long and dark, shiny and black
Open up your engines, let 'em roar
Tearin' down the highway like a big old dinosaur!

James Dean in that Mercury '49
Junior Johnson runnin' through the woods of Caroline
Even Burt Reynolds in that Black Trans Am
All gonna meet me down at the Cadillac Ranch

Cadillac, Cadillac,
Long and dark, shiny and black
Open up your engines, let 'em roar
Tearin' down the highway like a big old dinosaur!

Hey little girlie in them blue jeans so tight
Drivin' alone through the Wisconsin night
You're my last love baby, you're my last chance
Don't let 'em take me to the Cadillac Ranch

Cadillac, Cadillac,
Long and dark, shiny and black
Open up your engines, let 'em roar
Tearin' down the highway like a big old dinosaur!

(Sorry, I don't do Springsteen ) How about some levity?

Do You Want Fries With That?
Sung By Tim McGraw

I thought that was your voice
I thought that was my car
Now we ain't ever met before
But I know who you are
You're living in my house
And I'm living in a tent
And don't laugh, this second job of mine
Is paying both our rents
You're out here buying Happy Meals
And I'm eating rice and pintos
You so much as crack a smile at me, man
I'll come through this here window

Well you took my wife
And you took my kids
And you took that life
That I used to live
My pride, the pool, the boat, my tools, my dreams, the dog, the cat
Yeah I think that's just about everything
Oh I almost forgot
Do you want fries with that?

Your ketchup's in the bag
And her check is in the mail
I hope your chicken's raw inside
And I hope your bun is stale
I'm supposed to tell you
"Please come back"
But how bout this instead?
I hope you both choke on a pickle
Man, that would tickle me to death
I don't know what you're waiting on
You're holding up the line
Oh man, you ain't got no change coming back
Are you out of your mind?

Well you took my wife
And you took my kids
And you took that life
That I used to live
My pride, the pool, the boat, my tools, my dreams, the dog, the cat
Yeah reckon that's all there is
Do you want fries with that?

Well you took my wife
And you took my kids
And you stole the life
That I used to live
My pride, the pool, the boat, my tools, my dreams, the dog, the cat
Yeah I guess that about covers it
Do you want fries with that?

Here's your nuggets.
Dont you....
Hey dont laugh at me you.....

Levity's fine, Homeschoolers' !

The point of this thread is just to share lyrics that you enjoy. They don't have to be profound or popular or anything other than songs you like.

I'm currently renewing my love for the 'Man in Black's' music..

"The One on the Right is on the Left" by Johnny Cash

There once was a musical troupe,
A pickin' singin' folk group.
They sang the mountain ballads
And the folk songs of our land.

They were long on musical ability,
Folks thought they would go far.
But political incompatibility
Led to their downfall.

Well, the one on the right was on the left,
And the one in the middle was on the right,
And the one on the left was in the middle,
And the guy in the rear was a Methodist.

This musical aggregation
Toured the entire nation,
Singing the traditional ballads
And the folk songs of our land.

They performed with great virtuosity
And soon they were the rage.
But political animosity
Prevailed upon the stage.

Well, the one on the right was on the left,
And the one in the middle was on the right,
And the one on the left was in the middle,
And the guy in the rear burned his driver's license.

Well the curtain had ascended;
A hush fell on the crowd.
As thousands there were gathered
To hear the folk songs of our land.

But they took their politics seriously.
And that night at the concert hall
As the audience watched deliriously
They had a free-for-all.

Well, the one on the right was on the bottom,
And the one in the middle was on the top,
And the one on the left got a broken arm,
And the guy in the rear said, "Oh dear!"

Now this should be a lesson
If you plan to start a folk group.
Don't go mixin' politics
With the folk songs of our land.

Just work on harmony and diction,
Play your banjo well,
And if you have political convictions
Keep them to yourself.

Now, the one on the left works in a bank,
And the one in the middle drives a truck,
The one on the right's an all-night deejay,
And the guy in the rear got drafted.

After Forever--Black Sabbath

Have you ever thought about your soul - can it be saved?
Or perhaps you think that when you’re dead you just stay in your grave
Is God just a thought within your head or is he a part of you?
Is Christ just a name that you read in a book when you were in school?

When you think about death do you lose your breath or
Do you keep your cool?
Would you like to see the pope on the end of a rope
Do you think he’s a fool?
Well I have seen the truth, yes I’ve seen the light and I’ve changed my ways
And I’ll be prepared when you’re lonely and scared at the end of our days

Could it be you’re afraid of what your friends might say
If they knew you believe in God above?
They should realize before they criticize
That God is the only way to love

Is your mind so small that you have to fall
In with the pack wherever they run
Will you still sneer when death is near
And say they may as well worship the sun?

I think it was true it was people like you that crucified christ
I think it is sad the opinion you had was the only one voiced
Will you be so sure when your day is near, say you don’t believe?
You had the chance but you turned it down, now you can’t retrieve

Perhaps you’ll think before you say that God is dead and gone
Open your eyes, just realize that he’s the one
The only one who can save you now from all this sin and hate
Or will you still jeer at all you hear? yes! I think it’s too late.

Just so! Then I would like to add lyrics in honor of my daughter, who is currently residing with my Father ...

Artist/Band: Chesney Kenny
Lyrics for Song: Who You'd Be Today
Lyrics for Album: The Road and the Radio

Sunny days seem to hurt the most
Wear the pain like a heavy coat
I feel you everywhere I go
See your smile, I see your face
I hear you laughing in the rain
Still can't believe your gone

(Chorus)
It ain't fair you died to young
Like a story that had just begun
But death tore the pages all away
God knows how I miss you
All the hell that I've been through
Just knowing, no one could take your place
Sometimes I wonder, who you'd be today

Would you see the world
Would you chase your dreams
Settle down with a family
I wonder what would you name your babies
Someday's the sky's so blue
I feel like I can talk to you
And I know it might sound crazy

Sunny days seem to hurt the most
I wear the pain like a heavy coat
The only thing that gives me hope
Is I know, I'll see you again someday

Someday, someday

DEATH CAB FOR CUTIE:

"Title and registration"

The glove compartment is inaccurately named
And everybody knows it.
So i'm proposing a swift orderly change.

Cause behind its door there's nothing to keep my fingers warm
And all i find are souvenirs from better times
Before the gleam of your taillights fading east
To find yourself a better life.

I was searching for some legal document
As the rain beat down on the hood
When i stumbled upon pictures i tried to forget
And that's how this idea was drilled into my head

Cause it's too important
To stay the way it's been

There's no blame for how our love did slowly fade
And now that it's gone it's like it wasn't there at all
And here i rest where disappointment and regret collide
Lying awake at night

There's no blame for how our love did slowly fade
And now that it's gone it's like it wasn't there at all
And here i rest where disappointment and regret collide
Lying awake at night (up all night)
When i'm lying awake at night.
